But at the same time I never fall for the other types of scams... and I never buy from non reputable websites again. No passed along links or anything. |
Yes. Lesson learned. I had to change my card because of a fraud site but thankfully I was able to dispute all charges.

I had someone scam me, and steal my cc info and making purchases with it, by claiming he is from the cc company's fraud dept, and sees someone stole my cc info and made fraudulent charges with my card. He will correct the issue, and send me new card.....he was the ganev after getting my cc info.....I was never fraudently charged before he made the charges.
I called cc company to verify him, and bh was able to refute his charges right away and stop the card.

My Dad loves publisher’s clearinghouse. He thinks he has a greater chance of winning millions of dollars in their games if he buys goods from them. His one bedroom is full of sponges, household items etc. they relentlessly pursue him.

I know someone who was doing business off the books and got a scam call pretending to be the IRS catching him. He didn’t answer so they left a voicemail asking him to call them back. Presumably they would have tried getting money or banking info out of him if he called back. He didn’t sleep for a few days then called a lawyer who laughed and told him it’s a scam, the IRS doesn’t call you about these things.
He started doing his business on the books after that lol. He was so traumatized.

Close family member of mine just lost $10,000 to a scam. They called him saying he owed the utility company money or they're going to shut it down within a half an hour. He believed them and went to Walmart and CVS to pay it. They kept calling and saying they needed more money and more money. Finally he didn't have any money to give them so he reached out to some other family members who told him it was just a scam. They ended up getting back some money through the bank. It happens to be. They did actually owe the utility company money but not that much.
I was one scammed by an internet company. The crazy part was we called the company customer service line. Bh it was only $50 before it was caught.

amother OP wrote: | My sister is the reason scammers exist..... she always gets scammed I'm so confused as to why she keeps falling for it.
Story #1 ) she got a new laptop and she just set everything up. She received an email saying that her computer was hacked and it will shut off in a few minutes if she doesn't pay x amount of money for this security app... mind you that x amount of money was more expensive them her laptop. She comes to me to tell me how she is so happy that she caught it in time and she saw the email... I was ready to Shecht her. I was like girlllll are you serious she was almost in tears so I was able to gwt the money back for her bhhh
Story #2) this was a more professional scammer she was added to a Whatsapp group that dealt with investments they had a link to their website and it looked like a bunch of stocks she invested alottt of money. One shabbos she was saying how she has like 50k in investment I was like wow how'd you do that. So she told me there is this group..... I was like how about you try to pull the money out. This time around I was not able to get her money back.
Story # 3) after those 2 incidents she told me she'll talk to me before spending alot of money. It worked for a little. One day she comes to me and says. Finally I did it. I made a smart decision.... I was like great what'd you do. She said she signed up ( paid ) for a course that will teach her alternative medicine. I checked up the course one big scammmmm.... I ended up texting this lady to return the money or else....bh she got the money back
If anyone has any scam stories feel free to share lol |
Op, 99.9999% of the time people don't get their money back. The money is sent to Nigeria, India, Pakistan. or some other far out place and is gone forever. How did you get the money back in scam one? I'm skeptical, just saying.
And how did you get the money back in story 3? Millions of people believe in alternative medicine. If you sign up for a course, agree to the terms and make a payment, you don't just get your money back because you decided after you paid that it's a scam. (Or as you call it, a scammmm).
Are you sure you're not scamming us a little? These stories don't really make sense.
And then you have a sister who is the worlds most gullible person who has tens of thousands sitting around to invest. Something is weird here.

I was added a few weeks ago to an investment WhatsApp group. The admin of the group is not my contact and also all the others who were added. Within a few minutes I left. But they were promising guaranteed returns of 5-10%. I did see others on the group who were falling for it.

Sure, people fall for things all the time.
How do you know people sent real money if you left after a few minutes? Asking questions doesn't mean they were wiring money overseas. Also, guaranteed 5% return isn't even a scam. It's a bad deal because anyone can walk into a reputable bank and buy a CD with a guaranteed return of 5%.
Anyway, some of the op's stories don't make sense.

She's a single girl living at home working for abit so she saved up some money. she gave her credit card number so we were able to get the money back. In the first story we got the money back thought the credit card in the 3rd story I sent a very threatening text to the person and she got scared because she does have some clients and doesn't want to lose them my sister was added to the course group and I had all the numbers from her clients( the other students) so I threatened to contact each of them and tell them what a scam it is. She got scared and returned the money quickly.

Don’t forget about the one that says “your son is in an accident and needs money chas vshalom”
Someone did this to my mother and BH!!! She realized it was a scam.
Also using a very similar number or website to the real one is a common practice.
It’s so scary. Too easy to fall for them.

The WhatsApps ones are no joke. They use people's number who don't have WhatsApp to contact you. So you think its your actual contact who you know.

I googled Amazon customer service and the result was a scam number. We called and thought something was off but we had googled the number and the same one kept coming up! Bh we didn’t lose anything but I did start triple checking numbers and emails after that
