What is anyone's long term plan when they're self employed or 1099? Is there a reason youre asking about this specifically?

Do most jobs have pensions?

I don’t think so

Jobs like board of Ed, govt jobs do but majority of people in frum community are not working at jobs with pensions

I use a babysitter whose children are all grown. I think she’s in her 60’s. She is really excellent.

Why specifically this over any other job? Burnout happens everywhere. Doctors and lawyers have high burnout rates.

SS is not a retirement plan. It's peanuts. You need to manage your own savings.

We are maxing out our IRAs and investing additional money for retirement.

Many jobs don't offer pensions. I'm an OT and I'm not getting a pension

Most men in kollel get jobs eventually. And who said all of their wives are morahs?

And I know people in other professions in their 30's and 40's who are burned out

Op it's a very good question.
I'm a morah (almost 50), my husband has a job in klei kodesh. Iy'h we will get ss but I don't think it will amount to much.
we are both self employed and don't have enough to put aside on a retirement account.
I'm not burnt out but it's a very physically demanding job and I'm not sure how long I'll be capable of doing it! Same for my husband's job.
Not sure what the solution is.
I guess part of being a morah and working in klei kodesh is having enough bitachon that things will work out.

I don't get the question. There are morahs earning 70-80k . They'll invest in an IRA. What's the difference between that and a makeup artist, sheitels machers, web designer etc?

um. please tell me, how does a morah make 70-80k?
I was a playgroup morah for many years. big group with an assistant.
And my take home pay after paying my employee, after paying subs, after buying supplies, snacks etc, was NEVER more than about 30k! And that was before I had to pay self employment tax... so bottom line, I never came home with more than about 25k working 8.30-2.30 M-T and 8.30-1.30 F.
I only stopped doing it two years ago, so thats kind of recent.
