I do freelance work, and one of my clients lost a parent. Is it the correct thing to go be Menachem avel?

That depends on your relationship, but I feel like it's always appreciated. Assuming you will have something to talk about and not be uncomfortable, therefore making her feel uncomfortable.

Unless you’re close, I’d send a text or email…

When I sat shiva, I only felt appreciation and gratitude to everyone who came to visit. It amazed me how many cared and made the effort to come out. I think that it is likely to be appreciated. You can always keep the visit short.

You should go. Even if only for a few minutes

You don’t need to talk if you go. Sit quietly and seriously and listen to those around you or the Avel and then say hamakom before you go. 🤷‍♀️
