My dd is turning 12 and wants a canon camera for her birthday so she can take it to sleep away camp. I looked up canons and they are all about $400. Is there another reliable brand that doesn’t break the bank?
We’ve tried the cheap ones on amazon but they all break or malfunction..

There are so many cameras on Amazon with decent reviews, but as a photographer... I really want to get my daughter one with optical zoom, not just digital. Cheapest is in the $100 range, and that's on Black Friday. I miss the days of decent $75 cameras.

I have it, and honestly I'm not the biggest fan. Unless you know how to dig through camera settings, all pictures have a slight red tint, and everything comes out slightly blurry because of the mild shutter lag. I bought it because of the optical zoom, hoping it would be my every day camera, and I'm not getting it for my daughter. (Yet. Still looking for other options but if I can't find anything I just might.)
Edit: I have the KODAK PIXPRO FZ55

The old Canon g series you can get on eBay for about $200. It’s not the smallest but looks like the expensive new g cameras everyone has. That’s what I got my daughter. It doesn’t have Wi-Fi which my camp requires.
Edit: I looked it up I see I should have invested in cameras. The prices went up! They are starting at $250 now!
