I'm debating giving my kids an allowance. My husband will only agree if 1) it's earned 2) they are expected to use it to pay for things.
My kids have Chanuka gelt money and they still expect us to pay for all their random things and this upsets my husband especially since my kids do not help enough at home.
He thinks the kids are spoiled.
I would make the allowance contingent on specific helping but how much is a good amount.
The purpose of this is not to pay them for helping but to put them in charge of paying for their extras.
How much is a fair allowance? We are not flush, in my cheshbon it would replace part of the extras budget line that I have.
What would you consider something that needs to be paid for with allowance?

I give monthly allowance to my high school kids. They mostly use for going out with their friends for food, pizza, ice cream, tchulent, etc
It’s not contingent on specific chores. All my kids have “Friday jobs”

To clarify, it's not money per job. Its if you do your chores this week you get your allowance. If you don't, you don't.
Im asking how much allowance to give.
