Are haircuts allowed on Rosh Chodesh?
I feel like I should know the answer to this which is why I’m embarrassed to ask anyone irl.

Women are allowed to cut their hair anytime if it's for tznius/mikvah. For others, not that I'm aware of.

Same here. No haircuts during sefira. But I think that women that shave their heads, may shave during sefira for mikvah.

Ask if he can keep a different half of sefirah then the rest of the family so you can cut today. I know it might sound weird but at his age haircuts might be the only thing you need to be makpid on so it may not make any significant difference otherwise.

What do you mean by your last line? It would only apply to married women…
I’ve heard it before but don’t remember the source.

Nope. We grew up that NOBODY was allowed to get hair cuts. Adults and children.

I assume if your mother was getting a haircut because she wanted it shorter for mikvah, she wouldn’t have discussed it…

Im not sure your point. I learned nobody was allowed hair cuts.
And my mother actually had boy short hair so I knew when she cut it. It was very obvious. She did not covetmr in the home.

My point is, no one is allowed haircuts, EXCEPT that some say it’s permitted for women for tznius and mikvah purposes. I’ve cut my hair before going to the mikvah during sefirah, but never discussed it with my kids and obviously this exception wouldn’t ever apply to them as kids. So as far as they know, in our family no one has haircuts during sefirah. (It’s not like I specifically keep it a secret, my haircuts just aren’t particularly relevant to their lives.)

I understand what your saying. But im saying not everyone holds that way. And for women whose children see their hair,,a hair cut is hard to miss.

If you hold the restrictions of sefira starting from after rosh chodesh, you can "chap arein" and quickly cut his hair before rosh chodesh starts tonight.

That's only for someone who has a chazakah- who made it a chatzitza for herself if she doesn't cut her hair before mikvah.
I doubt shabbatiscoming's mother needed to cut her hair for mikvah, but maybe you mean for someone who shaves their head and holds that it's a chatzitza to have head hair when dipping, because they made themselves a chazakah at some point.
