There are different opinions on it. It’s not so clear cut what her relationship to him was.

"Uncle Mordechai" is from Purim USA.
If you've never listened to it, you should!

Creepy for our current society but it wasn’t always wrong for uncles to marry nieces, and halachically there’s no issue

Also most countries in todays day and age don’t prohibit it, and even some states in the US don’t either (in RI, your allowed to if your Jewish actually)

Interesting! Not looking to derail the thread or anything, but I'm curious - does it really say in state law that Jews can marry in a way that the rest of the state can't?

I discussed this with my husband yesterday afternoon paying attention when listening to Megillah. He said the Gemara says that they were married. Esther was Mordechais wife even though it doesn’t say that in the Megillah.

Reb Moshe Meir Weiss says that the Megillah became an official document by the Persians at the time and therefore had to be somewhat politically correct and not embarrassing to the Persian king. So they couldn’t write Esther was Mordechai’s wife so they wrote as someone above stated that he took her for a bas but it really meant libayis for a wife.

I think we had a thread on this last year.
Technically he could have been an uncle from one side and cousin from the other side.

There's no reason to look for this "technicality" when there's no source to say that he was the uncle. It's just a mistake. Why do we need to find a way to make the mistake be true?
