I want my 9yr old to go to bed before megilla tonight. Is that ok or too strict? She does not do well with late nights. Tomorrow is a hectic, noisy day for her, even on her best day. I think it will be much harder for her if she's also overtired. What's your opinion?

You’re not doing a meal tonight? Full fledged late night party over here.

I had this debate with my husband, against my better judgment let my 10 year old stay up but only if she went to the first reading at 9 and not waiting until I go.

Thank you for the replies. I put her to bed already but was feeling bad because she was so upset. Now I feel better that other ppl sent their kids to bed too. She will hear tomorrow.

We don’t as a family. My husband does it by himself. I don’t do any late night meals that aren’t a chiyuv (messes up my stomach and my night if I eat after 7/8 pm.)

What can I say? We take Purim seriously around here. It’s a full 24 hours of insanity but if you learn to roll with it it gets easier.

Definitely not everyone. More of a Chassidish thing. Many people have 2 meals tomorrow too. BH not us.

It's nearly 2am here (I need to get to bed!) but we had an amazing evening. BH we have a party at my sil's house. Just for family , but we get lots of lively shpeilers coming in. There wasn't a meal, but there was a huge meat board and loads of cake, dessert type things. And cut up challa for those that wanted to wash for melava malka but no proper meal. We got home at 11pm with little kids. My youngest slept for 2 hours this afternoon, and my others can manage a couple of late nights. My older boys went around with their yeshiva/ high school. All in all a successful first Purim evening BH. My daughter came to megilla with me at 9pm.

I sent my daughter age 8 with older sisters to the first reading. My 6.5 yo was upset but I told her she can go tomorrow. She wants to know if she can go next year at night like her older sister did last year... Told her no promises, it might be based on when we change the clock.
