Have you seen clips of random Americans singing? Or random Europeans? Many of them can’t sing either.

Yes I’ve seen tons of random singing all the time IRL and on clips and didn’t notice what I’ve noticed here.

I have no clue what you're talking about and I'm quite sensitive to bad singing. Are you talking about mizrachi music?

I wasn't aware of this until recently, but apparently some people who are only used to western music can't "hear" certain types of Middle Eastern or Andalusian music. Are you one of those people?

I’m also very sensitive to bad singing. Literally hurts my ears. No, not mizrachi. Just general clips of people singing at the kotel or unfortunately funerals, etc. I think Pear explained it best. They just have a different version of singing the same songs I grew up with so it seems off to me.

I think perhaps the issue is that the clips you are watching are of israeli soldiers singing songs that we sing slightly differently in america so it sounds off tune to you. it actually isn't, it's just a slightly different version of whatever it is that you are used to. I've seen many clips like that.

You might be on to something

Listen to this mashup of morale songs that the IDF Rabbanut put together. It's very much on tune.

Do they sing them differently in America?

One thing I did notice is that take "Acheinu".
The Israeli way has different flourishes, different places they drag out or push words together.
Different than the typical American way.
That doesn't make either one better, worse, on tune or off.

Like Abie Rottenbergs song about the Sefardi and Chassidishe guy singing Baruch kel Elton. The tune is the same, but the flourishes and 'ay yay yay' are different

Actually, technically speaking some accents are better than others for singing.

For example, American (especially country) Filipino accents make it easier to sing technically well. British accents for example are not so conducive to the proper singing techniques. And Israeli accents, too.
*this does not mean they can’t sing well or it can’t sound good*

This is a bit what I meant although with the music it’s sounding okay. The clips I’m talking about didn’t have music to cover up.

Maybe the Israeli ha'avara bothers you because you're not used to it.

I think you have to cut people some slack. Mourners breaking into song at a funeral for a chayal didn't exactly rehearse beforehand. They're crying and expressing deep deep pain through song.
May you never know such pain.
I've been at military funerals. You can't imagine the pain.

Disclaimer: I am beyond thankful to the IDF. We owe them EVERYTHING and more. I daven for them daily.
Not trying to make fun, but I find it interesting. I’ve watched many clips of them singing and they all seem off tune and off tone. Is it just an Israeli way of singing?
I really hope no one is offended by this!

Oh no. Not offensive at all. LOL
