Call back the doctor and ask them what to do. He may not need to finish 10 days if he took a double dose every day.

A couple of thoughts, though.
First of all, watch out for any stomach issues your child may have. Antibiotics, even when given at a regular dosage, can wipe out the good bacteria in a child's stomach. Giving probiotics can help avoid this problem, but if you don't want to give them prophylactically, at least be on the lookout for any stomach issues.
Second of all, as your child's mother, it is important to advocate even when it feels awkward. That means that if you still feel uncomfortable with what happened, you can and should call the doctor's office again and ask to speak directly with the doctor about your questions. If you don't feel comfortable doing this with this doctor, please find a new office. It is important in the future to feel comfortable asking, no matter what the question, and to get past the feeling that you're "bothering" them. I found this to be one of the hardest parts of being a new mom (I'm not saying you're a new mom, just saying that that's when I learned this skill). It's hard to push for an answer when they're trying to shrug you off, but can you can politely and respectfully ask whatever questions you need. You should never feel that the doctor is too busy, or too hard to reach, so you can't ask your questions. If you do feel like that, ask around about a doctor who welcomes questions and is easy to reach when you need to. | . I waited an hour to reach a secretary. The secretary asks the doctor your questions.

Wow, is this common at that doctor? (Other imamothers...Is this common at your pediatricians? I wouldn't be able to deal with an hour wait to speak to a secretary and no access to ask a doctor your question. I leave a message with the secretary, maybe wait two minutes to leave the message, and then the doctor calls back an hour or two later usually.)

I live in Lakewood and always reach a secretary immediately, a doctor or NP will usually call back within 15 minutes / half hour.

That is not normal.
I would definitely want to clarify if more medication is actually needed.
Btw I live in Lakewood too, never have to wait that long for a secretary. It's usually minutes. I use Kinder Pediatrics Dr. Fenster.

Do you use shanik? (That’s my guess because you said you waited an hour to talk with the secretary)
If so, you are fine. Shanik doesn’t prescribe high doses of antibiotics so double his usual dose isn’t a ton.
Definitely use probiotics though.

I had that at one pediatrician office. The secretary is the go between. I wonder if it's the same office. Because of the broken telephone, I by mistake overdosed my child because I wasn't understanding what the message was. If I had spoken to an actual Dr I think he would have realized what I was misunderstanding. I've switched practices since, because in all the other offices I've been to, the doctor calls you back , the secretary is not the go-between. And I'm much more comfortable with that setup

Dosage / strength is a major problem. These are all problems. But, strength is a major issue since it can be the person taking more or less than what was prescribed and can be dangerous to the patient. Pharmacies always run out of medications, but they will let you know they’re out of stock. Giving a different amount is bad, but can be an innocent error. I’d call the doctor and let them know.

I once did this, OP. I double dosed my then baby and wondered why he had such a terrible diaper rash Not the end of the world but I would definitely recommend probiotics. Since then I am extra careful to read the label specifying the dosage and frequency.
