I think there needs to be good food and nice decor, but the thing that really makes it, is if the program is enjoyable. Also the company obviously but I’m assuming you’re not taking care of that.

No disposable dishes, no plastic cloth on table, real flowers, no plastic chairs.

I once went to a tzedaka event, where they had a singer who managed to get the whole crowd up dancing and singing. I'm generally a shy quiet type but I remember coming home from that party on a high. I think.a program that gets everyone involved makes the event..

Was it Bracha Jaffe? I once went to a concert of hers and was amzed how she got the entire room on their feet! Never seen such an enthusiastic crowd, and I've seen all the big singers live. (Actually I was a little scared because the floor was shaking and all I could think of was the tragedy at Meron on lag baomer - just didn't feel like the floor could handle that much shaking!)

Depends on my mood!

An easygoing atmosphere with friendly people and an enjoyable program.

The above of course.

For me, it's the center pieces. Also, the tablecloth. You can set the tone with it.

Meanwhile, I wouldn't even notice that. Op, what kind of crowd are you targeting? I think that makes a huge difference. Is this a family simcha, a shabbaton, a concert?

Outdoor venue such as a backyard with string lights for night. A tent may or may not be necessary for this but I’ve seen ones without walls so you still have that outdoors feel.
