My husband did.
And since that happened, I've heard about a few others that it happened to.

The lentil and rice dish of sukkos 2011. I was married a few weeks, and this was literally flavorless orange mush in a pot. Memorable.

I managed to not burn gefilte fish. It was on low overnight. I didn't have more so I served it anyway, totally inedible.
I tried making two bags of orzo at once. You can make orzo in a small amount of water to avoid having to drain, but it just wasn't cooking right so eventually I gave up. I left the pot sitting out for a few days until it congealed and turned into a cake that came out of the pot pretty easily.

Oh this thread had me rolling. Thank you all!!
The first year I was married, I bravely offered to host 5 of dh's single friends for the meal. I was determined to have a gorgeous meal with loads of food. Everything was going off without a hitch until I brought out the main course, Hawaiian chicken. It looked gorgeous, browned nicely on the top. Everyone took it onto their plates and started to eat. Oops, inside was totally raw. I was mortified. Everyone moved it around on their plates, tried to find some more done parts to eat that were a tad more done.
Apparently, when it says to cook for 1 hour covered and half hour uncovered, they didn't mean to put it in the fridge in between. I thought I was all smart, do the first part of the baking in advance then finish it up right before yt so it's a fresh baked taste. Nope, that doesn't work. Lesson learned.
I'm still mortified every time I think about it.

How does salt affect the texture of potato kugel?

I made sushi salad for a Shabbos lunch Sheva brochos. I miscalculated the vinegar and put in too much. It tasted awful!

This is one of the most entertaining threads in a while!
Surprised no one mentioned it yet - I burnt an entire pot of cholent when I had guests over. Only the top inch was barely edible...

I had guests for shabbos when I was fairly newly married. I put my oven on shabbos mode and lowered it to 200°. Put in the challah, wrapped in foil, and the chicken and potatoes. We unwrap the challah by hamotzie and the outside is basically charcoal. We each got a tiny scrap of the very center of the challah that hadn't burnt to a crisp, the rest was just a pile of black crumbs on the table. I ran and took out the rest of the food as fast as I could. Turns out I had accidentally raised the temp instead of lowering it when I was setting it, so it was probably 500° in there...
At least my guests were very gracious about it, and most of the rest of the food was ok.

I made lemon bars and somehow the crust and filling switched places in the oven. They came out with the crust on top.
Super bizarre.
I googled afterward and apparently it's a thing that can happen if there is a crack somewhere in the crust.

Once as a teen I was baking muffins and preheated the oven. I carefully poured the batter into the paper cases and when I put them into the oven, I dropped the whole pan because the oven was boiling hot. There was battery goo all over the oven door and my mom was not impressed!

All the water boiled out and there was brown caramelized goo at the bottom of the pot and the whole bottom of the loaf was burned. |
If this happens to anyone-try it! Except for the really black parts, we found it to be delicious while fresh and hot straight from the pot/pan.

Lol, this happened to me too!
I think the first time I made zucchini soup I used the long cucumbers instead of zucchini.. it definitely had an interesting taste! Newlywed DH insisted it was delicious but I knew better

When I was a young teen, I put a frozen cupcake in the microwave. With a foil cupcake wrapper on it...

I made meatballs that called for 2 cups of hot sauce. Didn’t realize I was out of hot sauce. I made the decision to use the sriracha I had. Worst mistake ever. Sriracha is probably 100x more spicy than hot sauce.
On a slight tangent, I spent hours working on an extremely difficult cheesecake for shavuos. As I was carefully transporting it to the freezer, I tripped over my own feet and the entire cheesecake landed facedown, exploded on the floor.

One of my first days back to work after maternity leave I made myself a bowl of oatmeal and used cayenne pepper instead of cinnamon.

Dude, that can't be right either!
Please check the recipe before you use 2 c of hot sauce! (Unless it's like a popper sauce, I can't imagine a meatball having 2 c of hot sauce)
I am also really loving this thread... I almost didn't open it because why would I want to read about a flop, but I didn't realize how hysterical this is.
