I want to try to make gnocchi and I’m hesitating which one to try. Does the one with the potato flakes taste just as good? Doesn’t it have a commercial taste? (I never made anything with potato flakes)

I'm not sure; I'll have to go grocery hopping! I can't wait for this new supermarket Pomegranate to open. I hear they will carry all hard to find ingredients!

Nevertheless. Easy recipes usually lack something in the excitement department. These gnocchi are not bad at all, though.

It's really filling, so if you make a heavy sauce to it it can be a main dish. You can also serve it as a side, of course.

Ok, so I made this Gnocchi. First of all this is a really small recipe. I did just once the recipe and I have no clue what I'm gonna serve tonight! Wanted it as a main dish. Second, it has a real commercial taste with the instant potato mix. I wanna try the same recipe with regular mashed potatoes. Would that work? Oh, I'm still searching for a good sauce for this. Any ideas?

I'm still thanking Mishie for posting this! My dh loves it! He calls it Gnoch-out! (It is also great before and after a fast because it is filling)
shoppingmom...I use mashed potatoes by hand...the same recipe.
My dh likes them sauteed in olive oil (after the boiling phase) with carmelized onions and garlic. Try adding some cherry tomato and basil too to the saute...
enjoy!

I've made shlishkas, same thing initially.
They sell it frozen in the kosher supermarkets here.

You're so very welcome!!!
I'm actually thinking of making it again today. You all got me in the mood!!!
So for the sauces, you can either use a tomato-sauce, homemade, or from a jar.
Or, you can make a white cheese sauce:
2 tbsp. butter
2 tbsp. flour
1 c. milk or cream
Salt and white pepper to taste
1 cup shredded cheese
Melt the butter in a pot, then add the flour and mix (it will be like a paste), cook for about 10 seconds, and then start adding the milk in a very thin stream, mix well and cook until it's pretty thick.
Now add about a cup of shredded cheese, and mix until it's all melted.
Pour over your favorite pasta or Gnocchi.
Enjoy!!
I usually make this recipe X4. The amounts above are enough for about 2 ppl.
P.S. Mimivan, I love the idea with the sauted/carmalized onions and veggies. sounds delish!!

Ok, I made it tonight and e/o loved it. I doubled the recipe but I found that I had to add alot more flour than the recipe called for. I served it as a side dish in a tomato/basil sauce and it was great. I think I would try a pesto sauce on it next time. I found there was no chemical taste, but that could be because I added alot of flour.
