If it has a sauce, you can’t warm it up. Liquid coming out from the chicken itself is not a problem.

Sure but in and of itself chicken on the bone is not problematic

How is chicken on the bone a liquid?

It generally has some sort of gravy or sauce, otherwise it would be completely dried out.

I hear you, I guess I've never seen it without at least a little liquid to heat in, to prevent it from drying out. Have you?

I'm making chicken and potatoes in the crockpot. Its not about the warm food but more about the no prep supper

Right, I was just answering why it might be.

I make roast chicken all the time with no liquid added. Dried spices, maybe potatoes, some oil

thanks for the great idea. I think I'll make chicken in a crock pot. my kids eat it nicely and it's a warm filling meal after a whole day after not eating real food.

may I put it up raw like an hour or so before the zman tomorrow?
what else can I put in it? my kids don't like potatoes

I have. Also not every “sauce” is considered a liquid.

We also consider the natural sauce a problem. I guess there are different opinions on it.

You can make salmon for one meal- that doesn’t need to be heated up and tastes good cold

True. Sephardic people generally hold that if the majority is not liquid you can hear it up.

Are you talking about serving food for the little ones who aren't fasting, or for the faster in Motzei Yom Tov?
For the little ones, I always put up a crock pot before Yom tov starts, with meat and potatoes. They eat it throughout the day. I keep it on until Motzei, to break the fast on.
You cannot put up the crockpot during Yom Kippur, only before, like shabbos.

I'm planning to do cholent.

You can have hot food like a regular Shabbos.

You can't warm up liquids (the halacha for cooking is like Shabbos rather than YT), so I'm not sure how chicken on the bone would work unless it's on the blech before YK already.

Chicken on the bone is fine as long as it's not saucy chicken.

I'll also have a Mac n cheese for later in the day...and for my toddler who probably won't eat the chicken and rice.

How do you heat mac and cheese on yk? My kids would love. I thought of maybe making in the slow cooker but might get very mushy.

We hold that you can’t warm up any food on shabbos/yk, regardless if it has sauce or not.

Interesting. I've never heard of this practice. You only eat food put up to warm before Shabbos? May I ask what the source for this is?

Breakfast- yogurt/cereal
Lunch- cream cheese sandwiches or cold pasta with sauce
Dinner- shnitzel and mashed potatoes and will serve room temp

I don’t want my house smelling like crock pot food over YK. I get nauseas when fasting and the smells would bother me.

I would like to put up meat with rice. How do you do it? How much liquid for the rice that it stays good on low? What do you put on the meat and rice?
Or how do ppl make it with potatoes?
