b- this is missing one line from the letter which is :
children who grow up in a home where the mother is mevater to her husband, and doesn't criticize him, have good middos and have purer neshamos than other children.
(with the whole surrendered wife movement, and Marriage secrets Leah Richeeimer, we know what to work on for successful chinuch, on ourselves... as the chofetz chaim said to whoever came to ask when chinuch starts that he is 20+ years late...)
good luck to us all. |
It's easier to be maveter to one's husband and not criticize him if overall he has good middos and a pure neshama himself.
The Surrended Wife/Leah Richeimer iteration can be wonderful, I'm sure, but it has to be approached intellectually, and IMO with a trusted IRL guide. Not something I'm pursuing as expressed by some proponents.

How or why did this rabbi decide that these specific things will bring the specific things that he wrote? To me these kinds of things are fear mongering above anything else. Sorry. |
I take what the Steipler, zt"l, had to say very seriously. Have you not heard of him? His son was Rav Chaim Kanievsky, zt"l.
By the way, you're allowed not to be inspired by this. It's not the 613 mitzvos. Different strokes. Not everything resonates for everyone.
But I approach it with respect, curiosity, and possibility.

They are amazing people. You might want to get hold of some biographies. But maybe start with the biography of the Steipler's daughter-in-law and Rav Chaim's rebbetzin, Rebbetzin Batsheva Esther Kanievsky. There are five that I know of, including junior versions.
They were leaders, fascinating people who are part of an important tapestry. The Chazon Ish zt"l (the Steipler's brother-in-law). Rav Aryeh Levine, zt"l, and Rav Elyashiv, zt"l, connected by marriage.
Talmidei chachamim, spiritual heroes, tzaddikim... I could tell you magnificent stories about each one but I don't have time now.
