How many hours before shabbos do you start your cholent

This is in a crockpot. I used to do it totally raw by candlelighting but I was told it’s more ideal if it’s at least a third cooked. We don’t like burnt cholent! I keep my setting on low usually

Set it up first thing in the morning till max 10am. Leave on high and switch to low erev shabbes.

Hi.. I put it up at 845ish Erev Shobbos 😊and put it on low and it comes out fully cooked Shobbos night in case someone wants Shobbos night for Oneg Shobbos 🥰😊

Either right before shabbos or at least 5 hours before shabbos.

Yes. The halacha is that the food has to be either at least 2/3rds cooked (some people hold 1/3), or fully raw.
The reason behind this is that if it's raw when shabbos starts (and on a blech or other covered flame) there is no chance for it to be ready in time for the night meal and so no one will have the urge to mix it, or stoke the fire, thereby accelerating the cooking when they're checking on it. And if it's 2/3rds cooked you won't have the urge to mix the food or stoke the fire once shabbos starts because it's already edible when you're checking on it.

I fully cook it on Friday and put it on WARM before licht. Not high or low. That way it isn't cooking at all on Shabbos.

I usually put it on high around 7 am and put it on warm about 3 pm.

Around 11 am usually … I put on low and it’s perfect! (I cook my barley before putting in the crockpot..)
