I guess it was foreshadowing but I believe Esty mentioned in an earlier chapter that she didn't sign anything when buying the house and its entirely in Elis name

Going to Bais Din is a huge deal. They need a finance person to sit down with them and lay it all out. Then they can see if they still need the Bais Din. But, a family in Bais Din is never pretty.

I couldn’t believe it when he muttered “so try harder” or something. Made me so mad, so ungrateful!
I wish Eli didn’t walk back what he said to Dina last week when he said “go find someone else to fund your life”

The conversation from last week continued about eli taking out a mortgage in their house. Esti didn't know what to say so she told him that he must be in a real hard position and she's feels terrible for him. He's very thankful that she's so supportive..

Then haddasah called esti and said her friend works for her sister and will be going on maternity leave very soon, and this sister ,(chana) is looking for someone to replace her. She said its an interior design office and she knows esti likes this stuff so she should give it a shot. Esti calls the boss on sunday afternoon and the boss sounded really busy. Esti feels like an idiot because she called her on sunday on her private cell phone, but boss said call tomorrow to schedule and interview.

The next morning eli calls esti that he needs her social, she asked for what and he said for the mortgage, so she said wait are you taking out a mortgage on my name? He said he needs it for paperwork and before she had a chance to say anything he got a call and had to go. He told her to text her the social.

Esti was very upset, and this made her feel like she needs a job more than ever, so she called the office for an interview, and the secretary said she was waiting for her call and told her to come at 11.

She arrived to the interview without a resume and felt really dumb, but she still went ahead and did the interview, and was hired on the spot. She was so so excited because the vibes in the office were so calm that she felt like it would be the perfect environment for her.

She left the office thrilled, and headed towards the elevator where she heard a loud voice saying she thinks black would look a lot better, but lets run it by chana. She turns and saw it was dina....

I'm trying to understand how they plan to pay for two mortgages with non existent money.... this is a train wreck in every way.
