I tip the automated amount that Instacart inputs. It's usually pretty low actually.

Yea you should tip. But the workers are choosing this job knowing they may not get 20% from every client. So if you can't afford to tip 20% why shouldn't you be able to use the service and only tip 10% which the app allows?

You mean Lakewood. Because Lakewood doesn’t tip otherwise.

There is a mehalach ha’olam. If you can afford to tip, the non Jewish shopper will look upon us more favorably.
That having been said, if you cannot, let GOD look at you favorably because you chose to spend your money taking care of what is important.
MHO. |
They will not look at you more favorably. A tip is expected if you’re using any of these services. I know someone who used to do Uber Eats/Instacart etc and they said that they knew exactly who was frum Jewish and who wasn’t, because pretty much everyone tipped an appropriate amount except the religious Jews who didn’t tip at all. He said that in the rare case that they tipped, it was way less than the norm. The frum Jews (at least in Lakewood and Deal) have a terrible reputation with these drivers. Just saying.

As most people above said, yes it is. If you don’t think you need to tip, just don’t use any luxury service because you are making a massive chillul Hashem. End of story.

They (the stores) have a delivery fee which has gotten quite high so very often I don’t tip anymore. I used to always tip when delivery was free but if I’m already paying anywhere between $5-$10 for delivery then I’m really not inclined to tip as well.
Also about making a chilul Hashem, I’m not sure that the delivery people from instacart know how much each person tips at the time of delivery. |
They absolutely do.

As I posted, all the delivery people know exactly who tipped and what amount.
And they have their own forums and chat groups in which they discuss terrible customers including people who tip $2 or some other ridiculously low amount.
I am not on their chats since I don’t work for Instacart but I would imagine they do discuss the lack of tips in certain zip codes or neighborhoods. Just saying. 🤷♀️

You can check on Reddit. Yes they all complain, but that doesn't mean that every complaint is justified.

Many of them aren’t. The ones for 08701 and surrounding areas are justified though. You can give whatever excuses you want about why you don’t have to tip, but at the end of the day, YOU (I mean the Jews) are the only one giving the excuses. Everyone else figures it out somehow, even if they’re not rich.

Why do we need to fill in for stingy companies?
Why don’t we expect them TO PAY THEIR WORKERS ?
I pay my workers, why am I paying workers at restaurants or instacart?
(I always tip nicely, but I think it’s a disgusting expectation that it should be mandatory.)

I agree that companies should pay their workers properly. However if they did the price for the service would increase to cover that cost.
If you can't afford to pay for the labor--be it instacart or a restaurant--you can't really afford the service.

It is an awful system and really needs to change, but until that happens, it’s not the employees you need to punish. It’s the awful, greedy companies.

I’m always confused at the percentage system. (Makes a bit more sense to me at a restaurant)
I did not tip my shopper 30$ for shopping / delivering an expensive electronic (one item). But I also didn’t tip the one who worked for ten minutes collecting detailed school supplies and half were out of stock 3$.
I tip around 6-10 usually, it’s often 20% but not always if it’s big ticket items, those are usually expensive orders with few things- e.g 2 packages of diapers.. I don’t do full grocery orders but I can imagine that being more.

Ok.
I just went to google and put in ‘does everyone tip shipt and uber’ and the first thing that came up was Quora ‘why does nobody tip uber’.
A Jew hater must’ve told you the above.
