There is a company that helps with altering the goats milk to make it compatible for babies. If I was in this situation, I would ask for a heter to use this milk system for my baby:

I can't nurse. Physiological issue that makes my breast milk get stuck. I have curdled milk that burns like you wouldn't believe and get recurrent mastitis and infection. No medical intervention for it as per specialists. May you never know that kind of pain . Now I have to take pretty strong meds to stop the milk production aftee birth. But BARUCH HASHEM my kids didn't starve because of formula. And bh they are all happy fed thriving well attached children. Your post is horrific

yea your right, I guess ill have to stop taking my pchyciatric meds so I that I can nurse my baby. She wont have a functional mother, but she does "deserve breast milk" like you say, so I guess that's my only option. Her mom might turn suicidal but who cares.

They claimed that if a mother takes the right meds the risk of passing the virus throw breast milk was very small.

Never mind that the risk of giving their baby HIV threw formula was 0%

And anyway, if there really are babies who literally have NOTHING to eat right now, it's likely because they need a specialized type, which likely isn't the ones that pregnant people would be stocking up on.

Regular standard formula is in great shortage as well not just specialized

Apparently mine deserve screaming in pain all day then...
One with a real lactose issue, other with such intense allergies I could only nurse her if I ate a super restricted diet that I couldn't keep up for my own health.

I made 3 different orders on Amazon and one on Walmart. All 3 on Amazon are supposed to ship within 1-2 months. Whatever ships first I can cancel one or two of the others. I should’ve ordered while it was available on prime still but then the shortage didn’t seems so dire.

Thank you Zehava and others for the helpful practical links.

I am truly beyond shocked at some of the attitudes here. The issue is that in the United States of America suddenly people are having trouble finding a basic commodity that many mothers and babies use. For whatever their reasons. Some do not have a choice, some do either way it is their choice. Wake up! Today it is baby formula, cannot even believe what I am writing, tomorrow it is a staple basic good or medicine that you and your family need.
Wake up!
Or at the very least show some compassion.

This feels like dystopian fiction to have this crisis and harbinger and symptom of serious problems in our country to read of people getting distracted let alone opining whether mothers should nurse or bottlefeed.

I’m not sure if anyone mentioned this, but has anyone tried making their own formula?
I had to stop nursing my first baby after a few months, and was not in a position to be researching and making my own formula, but if there was a shortage of formula that would be a push for me to try it. It’s so much healthier than commercial formula.
(My daughter is not on formula anymore, so it’s not relevant to me.) Just curious if that’s been brought up anywhere?

Right!
I nurse all my kids but certainly know women who have made the other choice for a variety of reasons and certainly know women who tried everything! literally everything like crazy with lactation consultants and more and simply COULD NOT nurse no matter what. Literally no matter what.

My heart is breaking for everyone stressing about formula! Wake up one day and whoops not on the shelves/rationed/in short supply run around and hustle to locate and more. Stress whats gonna be in the future.

Telling mothers to nurse when they can't telling babies to get used to something else when they can't telling people to feed babies non optimal solids and/or ersatz formula which drs say is dangerous ...do we even hear ourselves?!

So grateful not to be in this position. Makes me feel literally sick that mothers and babies are dealing with this! And the lack of response or abusurdity of response on the part of those whose job is to keep things moving in this country is chilling! Really hard to believe! Says a lot about a lot of things including priorities!
