Hey Delores, I'm from the south. Deep fried Okra was a favorite summer treat! Yum.

Clarissa, we have an appointment with the medical oncologist on Monday of next week, so certainly we'll know by then. Her name for tehillim is Nesa bat Chana Zissel. And as for having the women again, I HAVE NO CHOICE, I HAVE THEM EVERY YEAR DESPITE THE FACT THAT IT MAKES MY LIFE A LIVING HELL FOR A WEEK. And this year was not the worst it has been in recent years. As for the two pounds, bear in mind that I was trying to diet during this time. And as to the rest of the company with the sick toddler, I felt really bad for them, so what could I do? I guess I am just a doormat! Sad

I know, I know, I need to get myself into therapy......

Yep, that's me. Polished, elegant, and coiffed. Not really. But I just showered, and did my teeth. So I'm clean and flossed.

btMOMtoFFBs, I knew I felt a connection. I'm a bit of a Southerner-wannabe, meaning a Yankee who has spent a lot of time down there and had my share of fried okra and green tomatoes, cobbler and all that is good about your part of the world.

All names are lovely if the person behind them is lovely as I am sure you are!

Oh tovasmom, I'm sorry about all of this. I'll be praying for your mother and for good news on Monday.

Not to be all psychobabble pushy here, but could you talk to each of them about the fact that you want to have them but they make it very hard because of how they don't get along? It's just not fair that they should be making a difficult week more difficult for you. You are so much nicer and more generous than I could ever be.

They sell it in my market and I buy it once in a while, but I'm the only one in my family who likes it, so I feel funny making it a featured player in a meal. But you've inspired me -- this week I'm getting some, even if I have to eat all of it myself.

you're making me hungry Clarissa.

oh, and I hope that from now on all your Pesach memories are wonderful.

we grew a lot of other things in our garden too: corn, all kinds of vegetables, melons, strawberries, mint, and so on. had farm animals too. is that inspiring in any way?

Just to add my 2 cents here, my friend's father passed away 3 years ago on the first day of Pesach. Last week, on her father's yartzeit, she gave birth to a baby boy Smile I think that's really special.

CM I don't have any to prepare. but as for food, the 'garden' years were a few good years. the rest was a dark memory to be erased. or perhaps transformed. but I love fresh fruits and vegetables. for a little while we even canned our own for the winter.

it's that lucky Clarissa who's going to get some.

My favorite way to make okra is to cook with onions, chopped tomatoes and Indian spices. Not exactly traditional (unless you're from the South in India) but less fattening. I serve on top of basmati rice and can eat the whole thing myself.

I have done the corneal breading and frying thing, of course, and that's the best.

A friend of mine from Memphis once brought me a jar of her homemade sweet pickled green tomatoes.

I'm going to put on my Indigo Girls' recording of "Southland in the Springtime," in honor of this discussion.
