Both names really speak to me for different reasons. I would probably call her Dassi. Is Hadassa too much to spell all the time? Anything to share about either name? Also, my last name begins with Ha.

If your last name begins with HA I would definitely do Hadassah! Such a nice sound

Hadassa, and calling her Dassi definitely.

(I happen to like a child to have at least one tanach based name as opposed to a created one but thats me. Even when naming after s/o).

Why would she have to write the full name Hadassa? If you are calling her Dassi, thats what she would write.

In any case, whats the big deal about writing Haddasa, lol.

Bshaah tova, much nachas, all should go well.

"Mommy, why is my name Hadassah?"
"Well sweetie, there's this website called imamother, and more mothers voted for Hadassa, so that's what we named you."

Jk they are both beautiful names. I can understand why it's a hard choice.
Not sure, but it sounds like Hadassa would flow better with your last name. Which is not exactly a major factor when choosing a name, lol

I have a Hadassa. She’s beautiful, poised and has lots of self confidence. I think it’s a good, strong name:)) and I like the flow with a “Ha” last name

Hadassa

Btw if you are the mother with an Israeli husband who doesnt like American accents on names, just so you know, Israelis would put the stress on the last syllable hadaSAH, and Americans would probably usually say haDASa

Not necessarily... We have a Hadassa (who we call Dassi) , and both our families are Israeli and we pronounce Hadassa the same way as Americans, well maybe the last vowel sound in Hebrew is more like a patach and in English it's more like a kamatz Smile

It just happens to be that my Hadassa is full of personality and adorable Very Happy, as well as all other Hadassas I know have a lot of chein and charm.

Hadassa is definitely a name that goes both in America and Israel, unlike Ahuva which is popular in America, but not so much in Israel.
Hatzlacha deciding!

Israelis wouldn't do that. Not for a name like Hadassah, which is a traditional name with three syllables. I've never heard it pronounced like that here, and I've lived here since forever.

It's only ever pronounced with the emphasis on the middle syllable.

That said, both Hadassa and Ahuva aren't 'in' names in Israel. They are considered very old fashioned in many circles. But I guess that isn't the case in haredi or yeshivish circles, so it shouldn't matter to you. (And who knows, old fashioned names always make a comeback eventually).

They were both extremely popular here in Israel 50 years ago.

Ahuva is probably considered more old fashioned these days than Hadassa, but they are both not modern names in Israel.

I personally prefer Hadassa, though I didn't vote.

Considering that this is the fourth or fifth thread asking about the name Ahuva in the past couple of days, seems you can't go too far wrong with it Very Happy

Since you are weighing every name against Ahuva I think it’s clear your child should be named Ahuva.

Just in the last couple or days, I've seen:

Ahuva vs Naomi
Ahuva vs Shira
Ahuva vs Maya
& now Ahuva vs Hadassa

OP, are you the same OP of the other 3 Ahuva vs threads?

Hadassa. So beautiful. And the name of Esther HaMalka.
Dassi has a really nice sound, too.
(I know a few Dassi's and all are lovely, so I have a positive association with that nickname.)

If you want something more contemporary in Israel, you could go with Hadas.

Please Do NOT name your child based on which name got more votes. That is not a way to name a child. You should do what you and your husband feel connected to personally.
