Anyone know a good recipe for meatballs that don't use tomato sauce or sweet and sour sauce? I think it is called Swedish meatballs.

I have a recipe for sweedish meatballs, I will try to look it up in the morning - too tired now.
Another non-tom. recipe is mushroom suace (I use the same sauce I would put on bourekas) and serve with rice.

Every time I cook vegetable soup, I blend up some of the raw veggies and freeze it as a ‘vegetable base’ which I add to the pot with water and seasoning. This is the ‘vegetable’ sauce which thickens nicely. A healthy alternative to the sweet version.

Sautee onions, add meatballs in, searing all sides a bit. Pour in some chicken or beef stock, add a little dry red wine, let simmer for 30 min. and voila!

Or just sautee onions and garlic.

These are my Bubby's meatballs (not fancy, but delicious)
meat
salt & pepper
eggs
matza meal
Make some broth using the beef powder. Add a bit to the meat mixture & pour the rest in the pan. Sprinkle in some bay leaves. Make the patties (we make them like thick hamburgers. Cover & bake for 1 - 1.5 hrs.

sorry for the delay: here is the recipe:
INGREDIENTS
1 pound ground beef
1/2 pound ground turkey or chicken or veal
1/2 cup chopped onion
3/4 cup bread crumbs
1 egg
1/2 cup broth, rice or soy milk
1 tablespoon dried parsley
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce (note: most Worcestershire sauces have fish, non-fish ones exist but you have to check the ingredients! If you can't find, a little soy sauce mixed with liquid smoke will do the trick)
2 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon pepper
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon paprika
1 tablespoon salt
1 teaspoon pepper
2 cups boiling water or beef broth
3/4 cup sour cream (pareve sour cream or rice/soy milk w/ 1/2 Tbsp lemon juice)
DIRECTIONS
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Lightly grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
In a large bowl, combine ground beef, ground chicken, chopped onion, bread crumbs, egg, and broth. Season with parsley, Worcestershire sauce, 2 teaspoons salt, and 1 teaspoon pepper. Mix well with your hands. Shape into walnut-size balls, and place on baking dish.
Bake for 30 minutes in preheated oven. Turn frequently so they brown evenly on all sides.
To make the sauce: In a saucepan, combine oil, flour, paprika, 1 tablespoon salt, and 1 teaspoon pepper. Cook over medium heat until sizzling. Stir in hot water and pareve sour cream until smooth and heated through. Add liquids slowly to avoid clumping
When meatballs have cooked 30 minutes, pour sauce over the top, and return to the oven for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Best served over Egg Noodles.
It's a bit of a patschke but it freezes well, so once you are at it, it makes a lot of food and is IMHO well worth it!
