we got an invitation that says when the kabolas ponim is, the chipah and the simchas choson v'kallah...what does that refer to? When they walk in? When the main course is served? The mitzvah tanz?
This is for a yeshivishe couple/family....
TIA

The weddings I have been to, simchas chosson v'kallah is the second dance, after the main course is served, so ppl who are not invited for the meal can come for dancing and not be left out while others are eating. You can usually tell by the time its called for, that its a bit later than when the chosson and kallah first come in.

It has become common in our community for the reply card to have an option to check off if you will attend the entire wedding or just simchas chosson vekallah, so the parents know not to order food for people who will arrive late. I once checked off simchas chosson vekallah cos I knew I wouldn't get there before 9:30, and the kallah's mother called me all offended why I was planning to be late. Since then I always leave it blank which is a shame cos I would love to save the hostess money, but I will not put myself through that embarassing phone call again!
