I've been noticing that the word "issues" is being used more and more instead of the word we REALLY mean to say and being that this is the Opinion section, I will state my opinion: This issue of the word "issues" is getting on my nerves!
some examples:
She has an issue with her mother-in-law.
He has an issue with his teacher.
She has issues with her parents.
He has an issue with his boss.
The Disengagement is quite an issue!
why has the word "problem" been replaced by the word "issue"?
more examples:
I have real issues with the recycling law.
She has issues about how the convention is run.
why has the word "complaint" been replaced by the word "issue"?
My (old) dictionary has the ordinary definitions of the word "issue." It also has the expression "to take issue" which means "to disagree." Looks like the current usage of "issues" is take-off on "to take issue."
Communication is considered vital in all our relationships. I think that using the word "problem" or "complaint" when we mean "problem" or "complaint" will help us communicate better.

its actually a huge part of todays society: dont you know that everyone has issues and everyone should go for counseling?
I actually heard a caller once on Dr. Laura who couldnt stop talking about her "issues," and Dr. Laura asked her to please stop using that word. it becomes an excuse for anyone to do anything, because they have "issues."

This is all part of todays lingo and manner of speech!!!
Don't you realize that by using the word "problem" you are admitting to having something wrong with you, while the word "issue" removes any problem from being due or part of you but rather a problem within society- no internal or immediate connection to you.
People are much quicker to place blame on others (society) than on themselves personally.

oh good, it's not only me who objects and she gives a good reason too
and queen - what an interesting analysis! It led me to thinking as follows:
when people use "issues" instead of "complaint" it makes it sound much less judgemental, and of course being judgemental is a capital crime these days

issue...is something you disscuss.
I can't re-call hearing it often really. Maybe I ignore the words. I usually say someone has a problem or is mentally deranged or has psychotic tendencies.
