Does anyone get the joke Rachelli told Akiva about the man who said he could imitate a bird and then he opened the window and flew? I didn't get the point of it.
She's saying that by bringing these pictures, which are not of the same quality, he's being like the man who can imitate a bird by saying "Tweet tweet". However, Akiva is capable of imitating a bird by flying out the window - meaning, he can do great work, so she's not accepting anything less than his best efforts.

I didn't find it funny that Shulem threatens to throw him off the terrace. I don't like such type of humor. Bad enough that Nuchem almost did it himself.
You know what I find funny? In this season, I'm seeing that Shulem has a penchant for garbling famous aphorisms. I don't remember him doing that in previous seasons.
In the first episodes he tells Akiva, "you know what they say, if life gives you lemonade -- you should take it!" 😂
In the second episode, he tells Ruchami, "you know what they say, if the mouse won't go to the Rav, you bring the mountain to Mohammed!"
And this gem: A thousand wise men cannot take out what one fool throws into a well from which he drinks. (He tells this to Tzvi Aryeh)
These are so hysterical! Anyone else noticed these? Has this been his habit in the previous seasons too and I'm just not remembering?
there is another one, he says to Kive „I could give you money but I prefer to give you fish“! „Fish?“ „Yes, fish, fishing rod whatever“
I think he used to do it before but cannot remember
I love Shulem's garbled proverbs, the one he told Tzvi Aryeh was my favorite. Seriously I don't know why Nechama didn't marry Dova'le Glickman when she had the chance.

Very entertaining thread! Maybe not everyone here lives in Israel. Jut pointing out that Shtisel's producers who are providing us with this series have asked that viewers watch legally (like not on Sdarot or other free links). I paid for the Sting TV app just to watch Shtisel, and I have not viewed any other shows. It's a fair price, not that costly. You need a smartphone or tablet.
This.
At the beginning of every show, they request the viewer support the makers of the show and not watch illegally.
Watching on telegram, for example, is illegal. They just had a whole article on Telegram in yediot achronot this shabbat, and it was mentioned that many of its charedi users use it to watch Shtisel illegally....it reminded me of this thread.
I watched episode four but did not have my husband around to translate as the others. Please fill me in.. What happened to Ruchami after the hospital scene? Pls explain

She fought with Chanina who was still very uncomfortable with surrogacy being a bidieved, so she canceled it, but told Chanina that it was too late, the surrogate is already pregnant. Then she told Gitty the surrogate was pregnant. Then she went and got her IUD removed.

There's something that doesnt make sense to me about the shidduch with Necahma and either of these brothers. Is Nechama a chareidi woman or mizrachi, like Sucher?
Let's consider: we know Nechama was engaged to Sucher when he was a shtark yeshiva boy. Something happened and they broke the shidduch. (Do we know what happened??)
Sucher became a changed person because of the broken engagement, and left the chareidi world. He went into the army and became a "mizrochnik"
Now years later they met and fell in love again. Is Nechama chareidi or mizrachi?
She calls him Issachar (in the modern way) so I think the producers want to portray her as mizrachi. But then how could that shidduch have happened years ago when sucher was sucher(ie. Charedi)
Also, I noticed that when she asked Nuchem who he is, he says, "I'm Nuchem. eh..Nachum. Call me Nachum."
And yes I agree Nuchem is better for her because they both share a love for classical music. As did Issachar.

Nechama might be one of those out of the box people.
She doesn't look DL (or mizrochnik in the Shtisel slang). She wears a wig, for starters, which is not that common among the DL.
She may just be calling Issachar the way he wanted to be called. The man left his old identity, and she respects the new one he built.
OTOH, she isn't your standard charedi woman either, certainly not your standard aged 65+ charedi woman, with her job as a radio host, and her deep all encompassing love and knowledge of classical music and modern poetry.

we know what happened yes
Sucher got cold feet and broke the engagement then was so ashamed that left and went to the army. After that he become DL selling lottery tickets. Thats how Shulem told it. „And his ex-bride? She“ll be marrying of her grandchildren soon“

Thanx! In terms of making sense of the story- how is she so convinced she will get pregnant within the month? She must keep the pace of the pretend pregnancy of the surrogate she told Gitty abt?

I was thinking exactly this Coral. For most of us it can take a few cycles or longer after going off bc. The screenwriters have never been pregnant so they don't know. This is Shtisel not life. She'll get pregnant the day after the hetken as she calls it is removed in that dramatic scene that finished off episode 4. It'll take a while but eventually Chanina will notice it's a real belly not a pillow. That will probably end with a lot of tears and guilt all around.

An IUD is called a hetken in Hebrew. Why is that weird?

I was responding to amother Coral who had said she didn't have her husband to translate when she watched that scene and wasn't sure what was going on with Ruchami.
