Ruchami and Chanina's relationship is cute. It's a little strange that he's so out of it to think a chiddush (unless perhaps he was hinting at love between Yaakov and Rachel) would excite her but at the same time he's arranging behind her back to make her dreams of becoming a mother come true.

Why would Racheli become a surrogate? She is steeped in money, so it wouldn't be for financial gain.
And it wouldn't solve her loneliness, only make it worse.
In any case, in Israel I believe it's illegal to be a surrogate if you don't have two children (or one?) of your own.

Ok, when the nurse (?) brought out the pillows I couldn't stop laughing. As someone who watched A LOT of daytime soaps in my childhood this is exactly what they do when everyone wants to fake a pregnancy! I don't consider Shtisel a soap opera but they sure do employ the stereotypes
I was also wondering about the dinner for the cheder. Do those things actually happen? I have never heard of school dinners in Israel. I was scratching my head through that one.
I'm not in Jerusalem, but my son's school did have a big evening event "night of chizzuk" fundraiser for the fathers, with a shiur. I heard it was quite nice, and the whole neighborhood went. I don't believe they called it a dinner though.
Regarding the boy with the phone - even a kosher phone in school would be looked down upon, but a digital camera might be floating around in a backpack during school without being crazy.
