Honey (or maple) baked chicken with apples
from the Kraft food magazine, with my changes
chicken pieces, any kind
1/ med onion, sliced
2 apples, any kind, sliced
1/2 cup maple syrup or honey
1/3 cup Italian dressing or mixture of oil and herbs and lemon
(sweet potatoes, optional)
In large baking dish, arrange your chicken pieces. Place onion on top of chicken, and apple slices around your chicken pieces. (add your sweet potatoes, if using). Mix syrup and dressing and pour over chicken.
Bake until done.

CM, have you made this yet? Apx how long to bake? Uncovered? Does it come out crispy? Sweet? It looks good and easy. I would like to try this for RH, but I usually test new recipies when we are not having company and I don't have that chance this time.

I have made this recipe sev. times.
It's a baked chsicken recipe - it's crispy if you turn on the broiler at the end & crisp it up.
You can vary the amount of sauce to your needs. If you are using more than 1 or 2 chickens, use double the sauce.

Whenever I cook chicken, I bake it at 350F for 30-45 min, depends. White meat I always cook covered, dark meat I leave uncovered. If you want to crisp it up at the end under the broiler, be sure to uncover if you cooked white meat.

A few q's about this:
Do the sweet potatoes come out soft enough or do they need to be cooked longer?
Did you use honey or maple syrup? Just curious.
What are the exact measurements to use oil & spices as substitute for Italian dressing?

I actually have never used the sweet potatoes.
I alternate between syrup and honey, doesn't seem to make a difference, unless maybe you use low quality syrup?? I only use honey or pure grade a maple syrup.
As for italian dressing, I assume you could good a simple italian dressing recipe, good luck!! I may look one up myself so I don't have to keep buying it...

I've used every variation. if you're concerned that the sweet potato be compeltely done, cut them up first, and put them under the chicken.

Sometimes I peel the apples, sometimes not, depends on my mood and how much time I have
I just use as many onions as cover the chicken, one can never have too many onions!!
See, CM, can you tell I use this ALL the time??

Most likely the original recipe WAS made that way, TR. I tend to burn things that way, so I stick to the oven when I can.
