anyone remember "heint beis shoftim. tuf shiyen niyen zoyin, machne hachudosh, marish mamluchos...."
and would love love the rest of the song beni mein kind! |
My ninth grade class was petechei choisem and this song was actually the other 9th grades class theme song. I think their teacher was meisels who nebech passed away along with her infant in that Shavuos fire by her mil’s house. What a tragedy that was.
And our teacher steinmetz passed away in her 20’s too and left behind twin daughters. She also composed a gorg song for colorwar that in hindsight was so poignant. /sigh/
That song is really beautiful but I can’t seem to remember it fully.
I was the life of the party in camp and the kid-who some here mentioned-always was chosen to go up to represent sports and oddly I am drawing a blank when it comes to my memories. I barely remember which bunk I was in.

I have to say, as an "outsider", reading this thread is absolutely fascinating and entertaining, almost like from a diff planet. I never heard of calling counselors, teachers, and bunks by names of hoshanos and cleaning bathrooms as activities. Wow! So interesting!

Yes. And we lived down the block and heard all about the fire. She was such a special unique person, and ran back into the fire to save her baby but tragically couldn’t get out.

As an insider, being that the last time I was in camp was 20 years ago, (boy am I old) it is just as fascinating to read and go down memory lane.
Just to point out here we That cleaning bathrooms was not an activity. Before we had activities we had to make sure the bunk was clean. Every kid had one job and she made sure it was done to perfection. It was so not a big deal then, just par of the course And the jobs kept being switched up weekly. It never took longer than 10-15 mins and I see nothing wrong with it.

Oh please. We had daily inspections to ensure that our bunks were cleaned properly. I believe we got demerits and punishments or something if the bunk wasnt clean enough but it was such a long time ago that I cant fully remember exactly. It was one of the "competitions/activity" in camp to see who had the cleanest bunk. Young kids shouldnt have to clean up after 30 other kids (who all used the same bathrooms and showers) especially when on vacation in the summer.

Every girl in the bunk got a job. Every week the jobs were changed. Somehow I always managed to make sure to get the easy jobs and never to have to wash the bathrooms. My friend who was a neat freak and very particular always wanted to wash the bathroom so that way she knew that it was cleaned well.
