Benching out loud, and the Boro park and Monroe / willi mocking each other with the lamed variations
Nosh boxes under the bench.
Big bites and box drinks from the canteen
getting away with wearing a bathing suit under the shvimkleid
faking hamapil , and then making a fig when lying when asked if you said hamapil
super organized detergents on top of the lockers
Jobs around the bunk, sweep 1,2, mop 1,2, bathroom 1, 2, 3, 4.

I remember being"strasha"d for every move that "mgeit dich areingeben tzi Mr. Kohn..."
The a Git morgen drushe they woke us up to every morning... My sisters and I laugh from it till today...
The competition and the backers omg I always resented it- why couldn't they just let us all play something instead of watching 2 people go up and play and everyone cheering and watching in the shpil hoiz?
The good memories are my parents came to visit me almost every Sunday they had no official visiting day then. Also I was from BP we always had fun arguing with the Monroe girls boy was it drama!
I remember Miss Biener and Goldman, Leichtag was my "teacher". Now in hindsight I see it wasn't all bad as I find myself laughing at some memories...
Nice to go down memory lane! |
I relate to the officialness part. Like couldn't they ever let us sleep in for goodness sake? We were on VACATION for heaven's sake!
Nostogia tends to give us rose colored glasses....

Reminds me when we once ordered pizza and we put the pizza box into a laundry sack once it got delivered... did we really think it could’ve been mistaken for dirty laundry??😂😂

I remember so much pressure. And sometimes fear.
Terrified they'd find my "unkosher" tapes - MBD and Avraham Fried, nebech farfooren in shol tachtis arein - (which I copied myself and mislabeled). Hearing rumors of an inspection and hiding it in my laundry bag but still afraid because classmates said they also check there

We called them "Yom tov ehrlich tapes". Or the english books.
The fear of being found in the room during activities.

The word transport was by itself so jarring to me for 2 reasons- mainly because it's a word I associate with the holocaust, but mainly because I hate the way they "yiddish"ized English words. Chas veshalon to speak English but if you're saying it with the Chassidish accent it's suddenly a Yiddish word and no problem...
