It may be allowed to remove the mask briefly to eat and drink.
I hope that they win a settlement but it's a cautionary tale because age two can mean 24 months or 35 months and that may look more like age 3 to the flight attendants. People who want to travel have to factor in that state and airline policies can change on a dime and decide if it's worth taking a chance on being stranded.

I think what happened was a little crazy and the airline staff overreacted. I wasn’t there so I don’t know how this was handled from the start. However, the part that was on video shows the mom acting hysterical. And it’s understandable why. But I see people behaving like this all the time, and it doesn’t get you where you want. There are interpersonal skills that people would really gain from learning and putting into practice. Yes there are rude irrational people in the world, and the most skilled person may not be able to get through to them. But in my experience these skills work 99% of the time. And they definitely work better than yelling and screaming.

You are only seeing the part where she’s already hysterical. You have no idea if in the first part of the conversation the mom was calm cool and collected ... because nobody takes out their phones to record at that point. You have no idea what transpired before the mom was hysterical . None of us were there so we can’t really judge her interpersonal skills .

That's more than enough. Even then she was responsible for 6 children- how is it okay to subject them to hysteria once asked to leave. Do you know how much anxiety that causes children? When you're teaching little ones about the world and other people and life you always need to be 110% on your game and stay calm for them no matter what's going on inside. That's how they learn to deal with challenges. I'm sure she was in an awful position but that doesn't excuse her reaction. And kids can eat lollipops under masks to the poster who asked (but I wouldn't give my kid a lollipop for wearing a mask - but that may be effective for some).

Sometimes mothers are human and have emotional reactions. Do you know how much anxiety this woman was feeling at that moment? Do you always have the perfect reaction in every position you are put in ?
She had settled 6 children in their seats on a flight home. She wanted to go home. She was compliant with the standards the airplane had set in place when she last read the guidelines and saw no reason for them to kick her off . They were being unreasonable. I’m truly not judging. But in my experience most people do not have the skills needed to deal with stressful interpersonal situations, and if they learned them they likely wouldn’t reach this level of anxiety. Before I learned these skills, I might have reacted this way myself.

That was an interesting mistake* that you wrote "pill". Maybe the disagreeable toddlers (teens/adults) should take a pill to relax them for the flight. End of problems. Looks like we won't be winning this f(l)ight otherwise.

The problem with this is simple. As of the morning of the flight, the airline website stated that children 2 and younger. Her child was 2 so everything was fine.
The airline changed policy.

My 3 year old nephew wont be bribed with anything. He dislikes lollies and candy. There is nothing you can bribe him with, and we've tried in many situations.
As far as talking to him about picking out treats later...again, wouldnt work in a million years.

Asking sincerely, how would you have reacted facing the fact that you and your six kids might be thrown off the flight? I could see my 2 year old refusing and nothing I would do would convince him.

Right. Perfect example of a lack of interpersonal skills. No need for your nasty comment. I’m not judging. Had I been there, I would have stuck up for this mom completely. Jet Blue behaved atrociously. When we encounter people who behave like this, there are ways we can respond for our own benefit. Even if the flight attendant deserved to be yelled at. It just didn’t benefit anyone ultimately. That’s all I’m trying to say. Not judging mom, just wondering if it would have benefited her to have better skills.
Btw one of the people who introduced me to those skills used an example that happened to her with an airline as well (hey maybe it was JetBlue). She handled it very well using her skills and ultimately was rewarded. Not because she is a better person than this mom (for whom I feel very bad), but because she was more skilled.

Can you please share the skills? I sometimes overreact and would love to have an idea how to stay calm and communicate effectively.
