You dont seem to understand the sequence of events. The child would not wear a mask despite the mom's best efforts. You would just walk off, six kids in tow? And then what, try your luck on the next flight?

I would never not leave a flight if asked because of fear of being videoed and marshals etc. Are you not scared of that?

But that doesn't change how unreasonable the flight attendant was. I'd probably feel overwhelmed. I'd go to a hotel and try to contact the airline- I'd know it would be covered due to the unreasonable policy. I feek terrible for the entire family but I think it could have been avoided and we'll need to deal with this a lot now (maybe calling ahead? practicing mask with kids? get a costume mask?)

This lady was clearly being picked on. The flight attendant was mad because she got away with it on the way in and now he was going to get back at her.
But why did the pilots go along with this?? I'm in complete shock. It's absolutely horrible

I really strongly disagree. We have to pick our battles and sometimes it's the right time to take a stand and other times it's better to just humor someone and move on with your day. But in this situation? The absurdity of the request should not be swept under the rug. Firstly, the policy at that time was no mask necessary for the 2 year old. So they should never have been bothered by the flight attendant. And in any case, the idea that this can be expected of a 2 year old? Crazy. The kid is sitting with the mother and siblings. Nobody else is going to be close. 2 years olds are not getting infected or spreading the virus. No part of this request is reasonable and it's really just not okay in my book. Not to mention, what is it teaching the other kids to show we will just trick the flight attendant and pretend we will comply? Sometimes it's fine to be dishonest?

I disagree with everyone saying to shut up and deal with it. No - that's why we are in this position to begin with of people thinking they can govern other people's faces. In no world should babies be wearing masks!!

We need people like this family who stand up for themselves and for the rest of us. The fact that they're Jewish is actually irrelevant and you can see that from the other passengers' support, which is most telling of what actually went down.

No - you humor the stewardess and don't make a scene or quote the rules. It's not like someone was watching them constantly. If the requirement was for older children then when the stewardess isn't looking you don't have to feel bad about no mask since it's not required by the policy.

Where I was, it was mandatory for all ages so I just played around with my baby until we left which was about an hour. The people around me joked about it too. It was a nice comical experience and my baby was laughing.

I would find it a lot easier to mask my baby than my two year old. There is no way my two year old will have a mask held over his face even for one minute. He will screen, kick and thrush until I remove it. It is simply impossible to reason with a two year old and short of sitting on him and handcaffing him you are not going to get him to wear a mask.

Yes I just had a personal story with my 10 month old needing to be masked for around 1 hour - it was a comical experience but didn't think of discussing it with anyone there (who probably agreed it was difficult). It's the adults who pacify the situation. But I don't know this particular 2 year old so maybe the child would have screamed or had a more difficult tims.

1- it's dangerous to put a mask on a 1 month old.
2- a 10 month old IS NOT a 2 year old. Not even close. At all. I don't see how you can compare the two.

This is what I don't understand... she arrived at the airport and checked in luggage - I'm sure the child wasn't wearing a mask then. They went through security - again, I'm sure the child wasn't wearing a mask then. She waited in the waiting area, and boarded, past the staff collecting tickets - I'm sure the child wasn't wearing the mask then either.

All of a sudden, while sitting and waiting for the doors so close it's an issue?

No one else in the whole airport had a problem with it.

I flew United with a ten month old. Only thing I heard from the stewardess and other passengers was how adorable she is Smile
This was an unreasonable stewardess. Who needed to show who is boss.
The people at security were more normal, of course they let her through.
Interestingly enough no one cared when I kept the mask on my chin while we were in the air. I covered my face when speaking to anyone.

Even the most unreasonable very almost 3 yr old can be bribed with a lolly. Cmon.
Stick a lolly in her mouth and all would’ve been good .
Or Instead of using all ur energy on the stupid flight attendant use it to TALK to ur ,again, basically 3 yr old.
Honey, do u want to see the big plane go high in the sky? Great! We gotta keep this on tilllll we’re up in shamayim! And while ur wearing the mask, let’s pick out which treat ur gonna want when we are in shamayim.
Cmon.

This woman was traveling on her own with SIX kids. So it wasn't like she had leisure time to negotiate with her 2 year old over a non existent rule. Maybe she didn't have a lolly. And many kids that age don't respond to bribery anyway.

But let's pretend she did meekly attempt to get this girl to wear the mask. And then the kid threw a fit, thrashing and wailing the way only toddlers can do. This flight attendant would have ordered them off the plane anyway, for disturbing the other passengers. She clearly had an axe to grind here.

This is happening on other airlines too. Last week a mom with an autistic child was removed
Search headlines you’ll find more stories.
What is the solution? Flying for hours in an enclosed plane is worrying. I am sure people pll their masks down during flights

Children with Autism are thrown off of flights on a near daily basis it seems.

Advance clearance from the airline, copies of the ADA rules, and multiple letters from doctors, will still mean nothing to a cranky airline steward who wants to run their own little kingdom.

Many 2 year olds are still really sensory, and haven't learned how to process too much physical input and "just deal with it". They don't have the skills yet!

It restores a little bit of my faith in humanity, that the majority of the passengers stood up for the poor mom. It must have been a big comfort to her to have people stick up for her, instead of just "blaming the Jews".

I absolutely hope that all of her kids' tuition, bar and bas mitzvas, and weddings get paid for out of this.
