To see if your mask protects those around you, you can also try this cool experiment. It's not scientific, but it does give you an idea of whether your mask is good enough to prevent droplets from your nose and mouth from being spread to others.

I just watched it, very cool.

Could you explain why that logic doesnt work? |
It makes sense, if you don't take into account how masks work.
Quote: | So you're saying that mask only work one way? If thats the case, then wearing the mask flipped around should protect you then. |
No, because it's also about how it sits on your face, not just which side faces in and which side faces out.
No one ever said that the mask is hermetically sealed and prevents droplets that are coughed, sneezed, spat, or breathed into the air from entering your mask. There are masks that do that job. They're not the ones we're talking about right now.
But the masks do catch your droplets, that you cough, sneeze, spit, or breathe, and prevent them from being released into the air (from where they could get into other people's masks, or noses, or mouths). You don't need a hermetic seal for that, far from it. You just need something with a thick enough weave covering your nose and mouth.

That's so so so inaccurate that I almost laughed out loud. A mask is supposed to filter your exhaled breath, not reroute it to the side. A filtered breath can still extinguish a flame. When she put on the surgical mask she left big gaps at the sides and air travels in the path of least resistance which means that her (unfiltered) breath was going straight out the gap. The fact that the candle stayed lit means nothing. The vapor test is far more accurate.

I did notice that the type of mask she used the first time doesn't fit as well as the surgical masks usually do, so presumably air is escaping from there as well. Also, she notes that the first mask she used didn't stand up to the testing standards.
What's the vapor test?

Biden is asking Trump to enact a nationwide mask mandate that is supposed to save 4OK lives in the next few weeks.

I wear a mask all day- sometimes two if it’s a COVID patient or a PUI. And I wear glasses. My face is sweaty and breaking out. It’s
Just lovely.

Are you claiming that masks only work one way? You have a source for that?

Well since there is no mask vs unmask study, they can claim any number they want.

The first mask she used is just fine. She's testing wrong.

Surgeons wear a mask because they cut the patient open, to prevent coughing and
sneezing on the open wound.
Your comment has nothing to do with my statement that if masks stop virus from
exiting a mask, then they obviously stop virus from entering a mask, protecting the
wearer.

I watched the Bill Nye video. And it didn't explain why wearing a mask does
not protect the wearer from inhaling the virus.

The fact is that hishtadlus never comes at the expense of "lo taamod al dam rei'echa" "lo tirtzach" and "kol yisrael areivim zeh lazeh" and anyone who thinks she is doing right by endangering the lives of others is drinking the conspiracy theorists' Kool Aid.
I don't know where you live but in many areas the first wave is only getting serious now, and in many other areas there is already a second wave. |
Please point to where I've said that the virus was engineered by our local governments. I never said that. I said that we will not be controlled by our power-hungry government which is trying to force us to wear masks indefinitely.
I think your beliefs are the kool aid
I dont know where you live either, but where I live there's b"H no second wave at this point in time and I hope it stays this way..
For those who are scared, wearing a mask should protect them them from the terrible non-mask wearing individuals... A mask is simply a filter and it filters the air that's inhaled just as well as it filters exhaled air.

Masks block both ways, but inhaling and exhaling don't produce the same amount of pressure.

Exactly! The only way the logic behind the functions of a mask is disputed is by saying logic is not applied in this case! Amazing argument I see this argument used in different situations where people dont want to accept reality.
But the fact is that masks are a filter for air that's breathed out AND in. That's why Chinese oftentimes wear masks to protect them from breathing in smog and masks are worn as protection from breathing in harmful chemicals, etc. Cloth masks filter the air in both directions!

You're hilarious. She said explicitly
יש לי כאן מסכה שנכשלה במבחן של מכון התקנים
"I have here a mask that failed the Standards Institute's tests"
The Standards Institute is the one which sets safety standards. So obviously it's not "just fine," even if you or I don't recognize fully what the problem with it is.

So trying to stop a pandemic is suddenly the power-hungry government's attempts to control you? Wonder what they did in 1918 to stop the pandemic, any idea? Oh, yeah.....they wore masks and quarantined. Huh.
I don't know if your first wave ever ended, but it's safe to say that you'll probably have a second wave. And even if you don't, considering you haven't said where you live, it's really irresponsible to say that masks are unnecessary right now, across the board.
No, a mask does not protect the wearer as much as it protects others. It sits close enough to the wearer's nose and mouth to catch droplets from being released into the air. It does not seal hermetically to prevent droplets released into the air by anti-maskers from entering the wearer's respiratory system.
Anyways. For those who are scared of drunk drivers, they should just not drink and drive, because that protects them as well as it protects others. And also anyone scared about people who text and drive should just not text and drive, because that protects them just as much as it protects others. Not drinking and driving and not texting and driving are simply eliminations of distractions, and eliminating distractions on your end should keep you safe enough. No reason to insist other people not answer emergency texts or not fulfill ad dlo yada just so that you can feel safer, you know?
And really, if you don't feel safe relying on your own driving abilities without imposing your will on others, just stay home and isolate yourself. Society doesn't need people like you around anyways.
