Wake up people. Just look at this site, you can translate it with google chrome
http://www.salute.gov.it/porta.....vuoto
Italy is testing everyone . They they don’t have any more doctors and nurses left and no hospital beds . That’s why they now mandate all retired nurses and doctors to get back working. And they have ONLY 6000 cases !!!
But 2/3 of people are in the hospitals . And 10% - in intense care ! Do you think it OVERHYPED ???

According to the WHO reports about covid 19 , 50% of people in the intensive care will die in the duration of 2 months. If they will not find a cure until then , let’s all hope that they find it .

Don’t look at the dead rate - too early , people are can be in intensive care for 2 months and then die , according to WHO reports . But the most important- how many people need a hospital care . If there is no hospital bed left , no space in intensive care , the death rate will be much-much higher . Also for those who are in intensive care , could be lung damage for life That’s why now in China they experiment with lungs transplants .

My teenage son is on biologics I am very worried about him but I don't see what I can do. I can't keep him home from Yeshiva and locked up in our house for the indefinite future. I just told him to keep washing his hands etc...Anyone else here in my position?

I take biologics. Live your life and practice good hygiene according to germ theory. Wash hands often with soap for 20 full seconds, dry hands completely, don't touch eye nose or mouth unless you just washed (then wash after touching). Use tissues on toilet seat and close lid before flushing.

Thank you. Would you avoid flying? My son's Yeshiva is going on a trip that involves air travel. I could keep him at home but I was thinking he will be exposed to those boys who are travelling when they get back to Yeshiva any way.

The flu has a season, usually the winter. This strain of coronavirus is striking in the Southern hemisphere where flu season hasn't yet started.

I would try to avoid being in an airplane with trapped air recycling whole time. How does your son feel about skipping the trip? I'd explain how you feel about his health but take his feelings about going into account. If he's an older teen he should make the decision after you explain your worry.

He is an older teen. He would be devastated if I told him he can't go. But I would still do it if it made sense. But as he will be in a dorm with the boys who are going I can't see how keeping him home will help in the end. Unless I am prepared to bring him home for good until this passes, what use is it for him to avoid the flying? That's my thinking - am I wrong?

My 10 yr old daughter is also. But I can’t worry.

Getting hit by a car? All these also have a "proven track record of killing people". You're not concerned for 1 reason. The statistics are very low. Guess what? The death rate for coronavirus is also very low. Why don't you look at the statistics of how many people are dying, both in countries that are being diligent and not doing anything to control the situation? |
Yes, I’m very concerned about all of those things. That’s why I watch my babies in the bath, and why we advise everyone to. Why I chew carefully and know the Heimlich maneuver. Why I don’t let my kids run in the street, and am careful when crossing.
The death rate for coronavirus is 3%. How many active posters here, 1000? That means 30 deaths. How many parents in your kids’ schools, how many orphans could there be? I live in a coop. How many in my building would die? How many of your parents and aunt and uncles ?
We don’t have enough tests. We don’t have enough doctors. We’re not prepared.
But if you’re not worried, go right ahead. Just stay away from my family with health vulnerabilities.
I’m not saying to panic. That’s bad. But be smart.

Talk to his doctors about what the risks are.
There’s a good chance the trip may be canceled. Israel is pretty much closing its borders. Other countries will as well.
As to school, again, talk to his doctors . The quarantined schools are using zoom to have some learning. If your doctor deems it advisable for your son to quarantine, perhaps his school can use that. t least give him a pack of wipes to clean his desk when he sits down.

They say that the masks don’t help but they are lying because there aren’t enough in the western world In China and Korea and Japan everyone is in masks . But you have to know how to use it properly otherwise they don’t help . And also you have to cover eyes - this virus can get through the eyes also . And on you clothes , that’s why in Korea they are advised to change clothes and take a shower immediately after getting home . No shoes inside the house . And keep distance at least 1 meter with everyone .

This is when hospitals and intensive care units are still available.

March 8, 2020
To Whom it May Concern,
I would like to take a moment of your time to discuss the real dangers of the Corona Virus
(COVID-19), namely the baseless panic that currently consumes our community. I am
confident that, similar to mine, your email and phone messages are overrun by worried
individuals asking what they should do to keep themselves and their loved ones safe from
this rapidly spreading disease. The most common questions I have received regarding the
current COVID-19 situation include:
“should I keep my family at home (from school or shul) to stay safe?”
“should I cancel an upcoming simcha?”
“do I need to stock up on supplies (water, toilet paper)?”
“should I avoid physical contact with people?”
“can wearing a face-mask keep me safe?”
The answer for these, and similarly themed questions, is a most emphatic “No”. I implore
you to share the message in which I have been communicating as often as I can: there is
absolutely no medical, biologic, or physiologic basis for panic.
Yet, even if you might be willing and able to accept this viewpoint at face value, it seems that
so many of our governmental and institutional leaders remain powerless to deliver such a
calming message in today’s culture of blame and liability. Moreover, the leaders of the
Jewish community are confronted with extreme examples of Young Israel of New Rochelle,
Salanter Akivba Riverdale (SAR) Day School, and Yeshiva University shutting their doors. How
then can anyone responsibly take a dissenting position that all is well?
Before I respond, allow me to establish my standing in which to provide credible medical
recommendations. Currently, I serve as an Associate Professor in the UCLA School of
Medicine, which has routinely been acknowledged as a top-10 medical school in the United
States, and therefore worldwide. I am also a graduate of the same UCLA Medical School, to
which I matriculated following my advanced biology degree achieved with Magna come
Laude honors. My professional hours are spent writing medical journal articles, serving on
the review boards of numerous internationally renowned medical journals, teaching medical
students and surgical residents, performing complex throat surgical procedures, and most
importantly, conveying complex medical concepts in understandable terms to 30-40 patients
per week so that they can make informed life-or-death decisions.
The response that we must provide facing epidemic levels of panic with subsequent fearbased overreaction is to first understand the available accurate information. Once
accomplished we can then integrate reliable medical information into safe practices and
recommendations. Lastly, we can turn to our leaders so that they can then be the critical
conduit in which to provide the guidance keeping our communicate healthy and safe. It is
this information that I would like to share.
However, as of the present moment, there are literally thousands of pages of statistical
charts, journal articles, formal government reports and recommendations. It is this
information that I include a short bullet point digest. Attached to this letter is a fact table
which I put together based on up-to-date research, as of March 7, 2020. The table shares
vital medical facts about COVID-19 along with comparative facts about other viruses. If you
find a point requires clarification or that there are aspects of the disease in which were not
discussed, please let me know and I will amend the hand-out forthwith.
Based on the facts included in this table, as well as from reviewing all official health
department recommendations, I would urge for the following talking points to be included
in your future communications and actions:
1) COVID-19 is an illness, but one that brings no additional risks to life or well-being
beyond the risks that are encountered in everyday living. There are many viruses
and diseases currently in our community, COVID-19 included, and care should
always be taken to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
2) Anyone who is sick should remain at home until the illness has passed, applicable
to any type of illness including: digestive tract illnesses (diarrhea which is
commonly caused by Hepatitis A) and Flu-like symptoms (of which COVID-19 is
not the most dangerous illness currently circulating in Los Angeles).
3) Those who are concerned about their safety should be sure that they have
received the 2019-2020 influenza vaccine to avoid a much more impactful virus.
4) Those with pre-existing conditions and those who are older than 70 years old
should take precautions in attending crowded events, which represents the same
recommendation as 2019 and will be the same recommendation in 2021.
5) No community-wide, school-based, sporting, or family gathering events should be
cancelled.
6) No additional precautions should be taken by healthy individuals in the avoidance
of COVID-19. Excessive and counterproductive actions which should not be
practiced include the need for: avoidance of physical contact, excessive use of
hand sanitizer, use of face-masks and cancellation of travel plans.
7) Community attention should be redirected to actual leading causes of premature
death in the Los Angeles (Jewish and non-Jewish) communities which in
decreasing order are: Heart disease, Drug overdose, Suicide, Lung cancer, Liver
disease.
The panic which is being promulgated by media outlets, government leaders, and medical
supply companies is by far more dangerous to our lives than this virus. I beg you to join me
in teaching our community. Let us douse the flames of panic instead of fanning them.
I am readily available for private discussions or to assist in a community discussion forum.
Sincerely,
Abie Mendelsohn, MD, FACS
Associate Professor
Director of UCLA Head & Neck Robotic Surgery Program
Department of Head and Neck Surgery
David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA

#3 is not true. Influenza is not more impactful than Covid-19. You can say it’s more widespread but it’s not more impactful.

I don’t see anywhere no data, no statistics and no credentials as someone who is a specialist in epidemiology . How can he explain what’s going on in Italy with their collapse of health care system?
If this virus is less dangerous than flu how come in Italy they have to choose now who to save ? Why in Korea they face the same dilemma? Why in Iran there are so many members of the parliament are dead now ? It’s just words, of one person , no prove for anything he is saying. Nothing. And from the other side we have many-many international experts, CDC, Chinese doctors who were fighting the disease , WHO with many experts and we have facts what’s going on in medical systems where there only a few thousands cases . Not millions like with the flu . Only a few thousands !!!
This person or is a LIER or delusional . And very dangerous. I would not trust him as a doctor .
