I haven't really been paying close attention to all the hype about the corona virus these last few weeks. But now it seems like that's all anyone is talking about. Schools are closing and people are avoiding public events.
Can someone please explain to me what the symptoms are? I've been feeling under the weather in the last few days and my kids are asking how we know it's not c"v corona? What are the symptoms and how does one confirm it?

It can only be confirmed by a special test.
Sore throat
Fever
Dry cough
Chest tightness
It could also be a cold, flu, seasonal allergies, black mold, or anything else. That's why it's so maddening.
I currently have all of these symptoms, and I have no idea what's going on with me, so I'm just going to have chicken soup, get some rest, and see what happens.

I hear ya. I have a dry cough all winter from cold after cold (yay life as a asthmatic teacher). I realized I sound terrifying to others, and in the back of my mind I'm wondering if it's something. But the US has a shortage of tests apparently and are only testing people who have been overseas or confirmed contact with a confirmed case.
I half feel like we're all going to get it like another cold or the flu, might as well get it over with. (I realize that I'm being fatalistic)

Thanks. Its confusing, because if it looks like a regular cold, what would make someone go to the doctor? I have had colds that lasted two weeks. I only go to the dr. If I feel so awful that I want to take meds for it.
Also, are people not flying?

Same here. Annoying never-ending cough. They say many people get the virus no worse than a regular cold. What if I'm one of those people, passing these germs around because I really don't feel awful enough to stay home?

perhaps fever is the determining factor
and if you do have fever please do stay home
if your kids do, please keep them home
call your dr
call your pediatrician
wishing everyone health!
