Curious what others prepare for breaking of the fast?

I always try to make soup. It is the best thing to break a fast on. I also made a tuna, macaroni salad with vegies and knishes.

My MIL usually invites us. She serves nice hot soup, fresh bread and butter, lox with onions and omelettes. I find it to be perfect - breaks the hunger without overstuffing you.

queen, I hope you're not actually fasting...
We usually have bagels with cheese omelets or lox. I like to make a soup too, any ideas for a quick and satisfying soup?

I came to topic to actually start a thread on menu ideas and here it is already done.

I usually serve tea and cookies and then wait a few minutes. Then I serve garlic bread with vegetable soup. It's just enough garlic to be tasty and not really bother your stomach after a fast.

Then I serve something light like a pasta. My husband is such a carnivore that he could eat any type of meat after a fast!

I might actually bbq something. He's okay with tofu burgers too.

Barley-Vegetable Soup

Dice and saute:
onions
celery
carrots
(parsnip, parsley root, celery root, if desired)
crushed garlic

Add sliced mushrooms (optional)
Add water, s&p, paprika (for color) and barley.

Simmer till done.

You can do the same thing leaving out the barley and substituting diced potatoes, also adding if desired frozen green beans or peas.

Great ideas. But luckily I didn't need any. At the last minute, ok around 6 o'clock someone called and invited us to break the fast. It was a very nice dinner but honestly, I think roast is a bit heavy after a fast.

I serve tuna-noodle casserole: noodles with a can of tuna, canned vegetables, cream of mushroom soup covered with cheese. You get grains, protein, veggies, and calcium all in one...everything gets replenished after the fast. Yay! :-)

That sounds yummy. I think I might make that for Sunday night. I made a nice honey cake which is usually what we break the fast on with tea. Then we wait a few minutes and eat. I always make soup too but it seems lately no one wants the soup, they just dig into the meal.

We already finished our fast. I made a thick veg. soup, with crusty Isreali bread, salad and fruit platter. It was refreshing and light.

We finished ours too. We had onion soup, bagels, and lasagna. And lots and lots of drinks!

May it be the last tisha b'av.
