Druscilla, who just finished nursing school, claims it's some kind of conspiracy on the part of my gay Trump-supporting wound care specialist.

When I finished treatment, I got him a bunch of custom-made cookies in the shape of ace bandages, etc. First he called and gushed for 15-20 mins about the cookies and how much fun he'd had treating me. Then he called back the next day to tell me how much his husband loved the cookies and thought it was unfair that he never received cookies like that at his work.

So there is a fair chance that this is all a gambit for more cookies. If I'm told to go to wound care even though I don't have any wounds this time, I'll know it's all about the cookies!

Maybe this time he'll gift you with a handbag!

It's interesting, isn't it, that you can send cookies to a gay medical professional but not a straight one? Reason enough to only go to female and gay medical practitioners. Because sometimes you want to thank doctors, but you can't do it if they're male and straight. (Trust me. I told my mother's palliative care specialist that he was an angel from Heaven, and he walked out of his practice and didn't stop until he was in Arizona.)

I would have given him cookies even if he'd been straight. He was really, really good -- and wound care can be pretty traumatic if you have someone who isn't.

I was telling him that nearly everyone in our community has these type of cookies for their engagement and various festivities connected with the wedding.

In fact, I told him, there is little-known fine print in Obergefell v. Hodges, added by Justice Ginsberg, that while you can marry whoever you want, the marriage isn't valid unless you have some fancy cookies with your monogram.

He appeared to realize I was joking, but maybe he feels his marriage is tainted by the lack of celebratory cookies.

This is a little known fact, but t turns out the gloss on the fine print emends the text. I quote below:
Quote:

Read not " the marriage isn't valid *unless* you have some fancy cookies with your *monogram*."

Read instead "the marriage isn't valid *until* you have some fancy cookies with your *monogram or symbol of your profession*."

He is relieved to know that his marriage is now valid, thanks not only to Ginsberg and the other 4, but to your custom made cookies.

(I wrote this only to make you laugh, Fox. I will not aggravate you further.)

Still in the kennel, I'm afraid, but hoping to be sprung tomorrow. Hope everyone had a lovely holiday -- I did call dibs on a couple of cheesecakes in play!

Thank you for the update Fox. I continue to daven for you and Sequoia on a daily basis.

It makes me sad that two of the posters who have meant so much in my life are both not feeling well. You are not just pixels on a screen to me.

Sprung from the kennel today, thanks to everyone's tefillos!

No IV therapy post-discharge, so I got my PICC line out before leaving.

The Infectious Diseases specialist told me that Wound Care is crazy busy, but "Rich will be happy to make time for you if you feel it would help. He's very committed to continuity of care."

Yeah. That and "Continuity of Cookies"!

But, really, I'm doing great -- much less serious than last time, when the infection reached my bloodstream.

I will be on mega-doses of oral antibiotics for ten days and then penicillin for about three months to try to eradicate the strep colonies that have made their home on my skin.

However, I'm not ruling out asking for a prescription for a really fabulous handbag in order to intimidate the strep colonies a bit!

I actually saw an ad for a Hermes handbag and thought, "I wish I could afford to buy that for Fox! But would she even like the color (green)?"

Even if I could afford an Hermes bag, I'm not so crazy about them. They are hard to get into. Whenever you see celebrities carrying them, all the straps are hanging open -- because it's too aggravating to fully close them.

Somehow I just don't see rifling through a Birkin or Kelly while standing in line at the fruit market. I think they're designed to wear while boarding your helicopter or, like Martha Stewart, entering federal prison.

But I consider the wish of an Hermes bag to be a particularly amazing and powerful bracha! I mean, anyone can bentch your for good health, nachas, and contentment. But when someone says, "Hashem should bless you with an Hermes Birkin in genuine crocodile!" -- that's a blessing truly without jealousy!

Are they recommending you take probiotics at the same time? Might be something to look into. But don't do anything without your doctor's ok.

I'm so glad you're out of the hospital. Rest and take care of yourself.

Echoing PinkFridge: With months of antibiotics, you have to watch out to make sure you don't get Cdiff. Try eating a couple of yogurts with live cultures every day. Also do things to make sure you have the healthiest biome possible colonizing your intestines: Increase consumption of vegetables, fruits, and nuts; eliminate as much as possible sugar and processed foods; grains are okay but in moderation.
