I make challa that's mostly whole wheat. I used to make it all whole wheat & it tasted fine.

3 packages yeast
1 c. warm water
1 Tbsp. sugar
-let sit until bubbles

5 eggs
1 1/4 c. warm water
3/4 c. oil
1 c. sugar-minus the 1 Tbsp. that was taken for the yeast
1 Tbsp. salt
1 heaping tsp. baking powder
-mix well
-add yeast mixture
-add 6 c. whole wheat flour
-add 4 c. white flour
-Let rise for 1 hour
-shape challa
-eggwash, put sesame or poppy seeds
-let rise another 20 minutes
-Bake at 350 for 20 minutes

I use a "White Whole Wheat" Flour, King Arthurs brand....it is Canadian wheat (includes all bran and germ from the kernal)..it is great! A very light whole wheat...it is good with any challah recipe, just substitute this flour instead of the white.

I make my dough in a bread machine on the dough cycle

fill in this order
2 cup water
2/3 cup oil
2 eggs
2 tsp salt
1 cup sugar
4 cup white flour
2 cup whole wheat flour
5 tsp yeast
* use heaping cups of flour
its a big recipe so just help mix it in once hte machine starts and u may need to add more flour if too sticky

Does it taste good and still good after 1-3 days? I've found whole wheat challa be too "tough" and not tasty....

It just tried this for the first time last week, and it came out great!
