just wondering. would you wear all black to a wedding?? I heard in some places it's not accepted cus black is a sign of mourning??
but comeon, 1. the non jews do that, 2. I personally feel tha t black is very elegant even a plain suit and 3. what I would wear to a wedding I wouldn't wear to a funeral!!!
What do you think??

I usually wear all black. But it's festive, a taffeta skirt, cashmere sweater, beaded cardigan, shiny patent leather shoes, etc. I think it looks really good.
As for funerals, even if I wore all black, it would look VERY different, nothing shiny and sparkly.
I think black if appropriate for simchas. I think color is also nice, but it's easier to buy and match things in black, as it is, easily 75% of my clothing is black.

I also find black too "sad" to be worn from head to toe, simcha or not. I have not paid attention that much to that, but I think you rarely see all black to simchos I attended.

interesting, there are groups who forbid black?
I have heard of "not mixing black and red", of "no red", but not "no black".

It's very common to see people in black suits at chasunas.
The practice of wearing black to funerals is a non jewish custom. I recently heard on a Living Torah interview that Rebbetzin Chana wore white to Reb Levik's levaya. That seem to make more sense and in accordance to Jewish customs.

Maybe Vietnamese, not sure, it is definitely some orientals, because I know that they stopped nurses wearing all white in hospitals because ti scared them. That's why Scrubbs now come in all those pretty colors.

Most people that wear black do so cos it is "safe" eventhough very few poeple look good in black. In fact, black makes most people look sullen and pale. Color analysts would tell most of the women wearing all black that it is the worst thing they could wear. It is amazing to me how many times I see people wearing all black and wonder if they looked in the mirror and noticed how "dead" they look. Go with colors that suit your complexion not with what is safe.

It's true.
The few plain black robes and snoods to match look terible on me; my kids call them my "funeral garb".
I have a pretty rosy pink robe that is much more flattering, makeup or not.
