I can't seem to get this very simple dinner straight,
my potatoes are never finished by the time the chicken is about 2 hours.
what am I doing wrong?
what do u do?

Add water to the pan prior to putting it in the oven.

I put my potatoes on the bottom of the pan, underneath the chicken.
Cut them in half, the long way, and then in half again, also the long way.
Cover the pan for the first hour. They should be well done by the time the chicken is ready (about 2 hours total).

I slice the potato relatively thin and cover with ckn, cover the whole thing with whatever sauce and cover the pan well. bake 1.5-2 hrs. if your potatoes are too chunky or thick tht could be why.

I put some water in the bottom of the pan (about 1/2") then peel & slice the potatoes into 3/4" slices. Then put the chicken on top. Put spices. Cover with foil & bake at 400 for 2 hours.
