Someone told me she doesn't get manicures while pregnant because of the possibility of stepping on a nail.

Is this halacha? Minhag? Chumra? Can one just check the floor as they walk?

I was pregnant and got manicures and pedicures. I never saw nails clips on the floor.

I hear ya. A pedicure is more likely it can happen. So maybe not. You can kindly as the women to wipe the floor with a babywipe so you don't step into it. And did you know it says in gemara that a person should not step on eggshells for the same reason?! True fact! I checked it out and I was told by a talmid chochom that eggshells are worse than nails.

Just to be on the safe side, stay away from gels and acrylics, and ask for touline free polish if they have it. Make sure the shop is really well ventilated.

I had never heard of this either by my first two pregnancies and then I heard this mentioned by a friend of mine and asked my husband to ask his rav the next time I was pregnant. Apparently there is an issue with it although different people hold differently. Ask ur rabbi. A different friend asked her rav too and was also told not too. You can have someone come to your house to avoid a problem.

I have someone come to my home.
I asked my rav; he said I can ask the employees to sweep the salon before I walk in, but I didn't want to do that so I avoid it.

Have you looked it up or asked your rabbi, before labeling it ridiculous?

I was also told to avoid going to salons or to go early or get someone to come to the house. If nails are swept it’s ok as long as they aren’t left we’re they fall.
