do you do this?
we havne't done this before, but this year we're doing it.
basically you put a candle in your bedroom lit so that you won't...u know...do the forbidden stuff on YK.
DO you do this? (the candle that is...)

we did this on the first Yom Kippur of our married life.
This year I would most likely not do this, since we have a toddler in our room and she can't sleep well if there's a light. So I think of leaving an electric light next to our room so the light would be able to enter. My dh is going to ask a rav tomorrow if that's ok..

I wouldn't do it for safety reasons and never did do it.

sound like an invernted chumra to me
If you are not allowed to do "it" - you wont do it.
Do you go eat icecream when you ae fleishic ? Or walk out the house with no hat on ? And you manage 2 weeks out of 4. WHy is yk different ?

It doesn´t have to be a candle specifically but there should be light coming into the room.

It's not an invented chumra at all. I don't know if everyone holds like this, but I learned it's halacha.
We have 'fences' for lots of things. Do you write on Shabbat? So why is a pencil muktza? As a 'fence'.

learned the same thing. My DH has gone away the past 2 Yk so we've never done it but I always learned it.

I never heard of this, neither the candle nor the light. I don't think it sounds safe (the candle) or practical to sleep (light), and if we manage 12 days we will manage on a soooo not exciting day like YK!

Never heard of this, but I agree with Hila. Also, if it's to have light in the room, my bathroom light is on & I have a Shabbos lamp.

I like to put scented candles in the room to set the mood for hmm hmm, so it probably wouldn't work for me!!!
And never heard of it.

For all those of us who haven't heard of this, I just asked DH and he said it's mefurash in the mishna brurah.
IMO having a candle in the room at night sounds very romantic, but he said it's to make having relations assur, but it's assur anyways so what is having an extra issur gonna help..?

We used to use a candle but we have a kosher lamp so dh said we should use that. The problem is it was shining right in my face and I am very light sensitive when sleeping, I need total darkness. So I shut it. I anyway had a bad tummy bug the whole night, I figured that was enough of a fence.
I think you use a yarzeit candle.

I wonder if a Shabbos lamp would be okay, since you can close it if you want to.
We use a 'yartzheit' candle, and it doesn't bother me sleeping.
