How would each one be used when fixing up a home. How do their roles compare and contrast. Yes walls need to be moved in this project - possibly weight bearing walls.

A space planner will help you work out the new layout to make sure it is uses the space wisely and fits your needs. If weight bearing walls would need to be moved, you would probably also need the opinion of an architect to make sure you are not affecting the structure. An interior designer usually works with interior, once the walls are up, and will help you pick the finishes, accessories and furniture.

The architect can do all those jobs, so I think in your case, hiring an architect is best. There are some people who are space planners - they do what Architects do, but they cant touch anything structural. Some interior designers are also space planners, and help with layout while others just pick finishes and furniture.
Some people want to go cheaper and hire all three, in Lakewood for example that might work. But in general that doesn’t make any sense. If you hire a good architect, they will be good space planners and good decorators, or they’ll have an option to use their in house interior designer.
