Loved your recipe for potato kugel you gave me before Shabbos!
I'd love to try this gnocchi recipe, but I don't have access to dried potato flakes...so could you also give your recipe for shlishkes with real potatoes?

Thanks!

Can you post the potato kugel recipe?

maybe because I make mine with olive oil,

Heat oil and add garlic. Cook till golden, increase heat to high and add tomatoes. Lower heat when tomatoes begin to burst and simmer 30 minutes. Ten minutes before end, add basil, salt and pepper and stir.

you can also make cheese gnochi which are really easy- a container of ricotta cheese an egg and flour. it is much easier and I have found comeout better than the potato ones.

I made a triple recipe, but ended up using about half (and freezing the rest of the dough).

I would say, we had plenty to serve a family of 2 adults and 5 kids. (plus more to have the next day).

IIRC, the recipe is supposed to serve 4, but I'm not 100% sure.

no potato they are cheese gniocchi only
I don't actually have a recipe to follow, my grandmother makes it and told me the ingrediants over the phone, but I use one container of ricotta cheese, one egg, and then add about a 1/4 cup of flour.mix it andkeep adding flour if needed, so it shouldn't be sticky. then do the same like the potato. roll them into logs and cut them in small piesces and add to boiling water until they float on top.
they are really good and much easier than the potaote ones.

So Mishie, I made your instant potato recipe (too hot to slave over the traditional kind) and it was really good. I used 1 c. whole wheat flour and 1/2 c. white flour and half the amount of salt, and they were really good!!

Oh I'm so happy!!! Very Happy

What kind of sauce did you make?

p.s. I still have the dough in my freezer, I'm thinking of making it again, either this week or before the fast. But I want to try a new sauce with it, so my family doesn't get bored....

I think that I want to try the easy one. I did the one from the chabad cookbook. It tasted great! It was tons of work though!

I made a tomato sauce which dh hated, so he ate his plain and said they were excellent that way too. I made a cheese sauce which ds hated so he refused to eat any more of his, but he doesn't eat much anyhow...I ate it with tomato sauce (which to tell the truth didn't come out as good as usual.)

If you come up with a new sauce that doesn't include tomatoes and cheese, I'd definitely be interested! Very Happy

Thanks Mishie! I made it last night & it was so easy & tasted delicious. I just poured stored bought marinara sauce over it & served it with grilled salmon.

sarahd, how about pesto?

I made your gnocchi recipe which worked very well. The sauce recipe tastes good, too, but it makes so little sauce compared to the amount of gnocchi.

I find that Shlishkis and this taste very different (I admit same family though)! That is made with breadcrumbs, while this you put yummy cheesy sauce!! Mishkie, could you maybe share the sauce recipe? If this tastes anything like Café K’s Gnocchi it must be a real hit! I gotta try it! Anyone knows where in Flatbush I could get potato flakes?
