First year with the goldfish and I see the food has yeast. What do you feed them during pesach? Can I find non-chometz food?

Our fish hated those worms. It was like they were on a hunger strike.

I don't remember the exact details, but the pet store sold us one year a plant you can put in the tank that the fish can eat over Pesach. Apparently it's made for people who will be away for several days and need to have a way for their fish to be fed even if no one is there each day to do the feeding.
(Mind you, you may not want to tell a worker in a pet store you"ll be away for several days, just as a safety precaution...)

I thought so too but the ou says otherwise.
Dry flour is not chometz but dry yeast is. It's the gluten from the wheat.
And in any case, fish food doesn't stay dry

We bought a vacation feeder pyramid last year put in the tank and we left for pesach--cost about $3 and we didn't have to worry about our fish all y"t, and we "sold it" with our chometz.

There is KLP yeast which is not grown on flour but on other substances, see the last paragraph here
https://oukosher.org/blog/indu.....tion/
But yeast needs to be certified KLP to make sure it was not grown on flour.
There may be no brand of fish food with KLP yeast, but if there was, you could get it wet on Pesach.

Freeze dried bloodworms. If they're hungry enough they'll eat it. I have also fed them tiny bits of salmon.
They won't starve to death if they don't eat much for a week.

You can buy frozen bloodworms too. And goldfish can be given frozen peas, which should have the skin removed and can be slightly crushed (they are kitniyot but fine to feed pets). In fact, peas are recommended for weekly feedings to prevent swim bladder problems in goldfish.

One may not derive any benefit from chametz, so feeding chametz that belongs to a [non jew] is also not allowed.
We feed frozen worms - there are various kind that come in blister packs. Also a thin slice of cucumber every few days.

frozen blood worms ... not only do they love this but they start making bubbles to prepare for eggs - so it's good for their future children ~ נרבה כדגים ~ to multiply like the fishes
