I'm using the recipe from the Lubavitch purple cookbook. It's chicken cooked in a sauce of shallots, mushrooms, white wine, spices and tomatos (the recipe uses tomatos or canned stewed tomatos but I put in fresh because I like fresh. I've never had it before but it smells yum.

Not like I care that much anymore. My oldest is not feeling well. Sad

I had flu these past few days but thursday night someone calls, can he come for shabbos. I said sure, if you don't mind risking catching a bad cold from me and my husband. I thought he would get the hint but no. So friday I drag myself out of bed, and send my poor husband to the supermarket. Spent the day cooking. 2 hours before shabbos guest calls up to cancel. Exploding anger

The food didn't go to waste, we had 3 other guests I had totally forgotten about for friday night. But the shabbos day food is still sitting in my fridge mostly.

So this is what we had:

Homemade challa
hummous techina (bought)

chicken soup with lokshen (very popular this week)

roast chicken
roast shoulder of lamb
roast baby potaotes
green beans with almonds

dessert: leftover danishes from Upshernish, and watermelon

day
fresh salad
cholent
kids had leftover lamb
chicken soup

So the surprise was.... italian! DH made veggie lasagne, challah, salmon, cannoli and a spinach salad for Friday night. For Shabbos day cholent, a big antipasti platter, and "italian" gefilte fish (he added chopped tomato). Definitely wasn't what I'd expected, but it was nice to have the chance to relax Very Happy

nothing else special.

CM - How do you make the Olive Dip? Do you use Green or Black olives?

Here's what I'm serving:

Night:

Bakery Challah
Chumus with Chickpeas
Pickled Herring
Pickles and Olives
Grilled Salmon with Onions
Fennel Salad (if I have the time)

Chicken, Sweet-Potatoes and Onions underneath. (Sauce: Wine, Brown-Sugar, Soy-Sauce, Ketchup and Olive-Oil, Garlic-Powder)

Haven't decided what to bake yet....

Day:

Instead of the usual Chullent - I made a Meat-Stew with lots of vegetables.
Cold-Cuts

Not much we are going out tomorrow so it is being a really simple Shabbos.

The kids go to sleep before shabbos comes in so dh and I eat together after Shabbos is in.

This week there is gefilta fish with Mayo and a TCP salad.
Then spicy chicken with potatos and by the time we have finished that it is after 11:30 or later and we are ready for bed, so that's this weeks Shabbos, short and simple!!!!!
