I've done it too. I like also wild rice in cholent. definitely go for it. It's not the exact same thing but DH never noticed a difference with regular rice. Wild Rice is a bit crunchier and he did mention that it seemed different then.

Put a little more water than you usually would. Rice absorbs a lot of water.
But it'll be YUMmy, it gives the cholent a great consistency!

No, it's not - it's true. There are some things I just can't make.
That's why I got a rice steamer.

you can also put the rice in a bag (made of cheesecloth) and put it in the cholent. this is what sephardim do for dafina. they also put whole eggs in their shells in.

I put rice in my cholent every week but I invented this method that makes it come out amazing- my kids love it:
I put the correct amounts of rice, water, salt and a drop of oil into one of those crockpot liner bags and knot the top. drop it into the cholent and it comes out soft and yummy and tastes like rice, not cholent. We're not cholent people altogether, so the way I make it is just meat and sweet potatoes and with the rice, its a whole meal.
my kids eat more on shabbos than they do all week- its great.
