There is an odor in my house. I can't tell what it is. I can smell it when I come in the door, but then it goes away. Sometimes, as I move about the house, it reappears, but never in the same place and when I try to narrow it down it eludes me again. It never seems to get stronger so I can;t pinpoint it. Since it started we've had the cleaning people more than 4 times and of course I've gone over every inch-this was before Pesach and we were gone for 2 weeks. It's still here! My house is clean and well-organized, but it smells. Any suggestions?
it's not the dishwashers, not the garbage cans, no old potatoes/onions, not the sink drains, not the fridge or freezer-I'm stumped
Anybody have an eitza?

I was going to say dead mouse, but why would the smell move from place to place? ghost mouse?

oh, I hope not-what does that smell like? this is kind of like old milk, maybe? it's been almost a month-anyway I heard mice don't smell as they decompose because they have virtually no flesh, or something, did I hear that right?
thanks for the ideas-how would I go about locating it, though, it seems to keep moving
please-more suggestions

you'd be surprised how much a little dead mouse can smell ... but I too was stumped by it moving around (ghost mouse - how cute brooklyn)... you never know ... look under oven ... washer ... places to keep warm ...

Could there have been a spill on your carpet that is now mildewing?
Leak under the kitchen or bathroom sink?
I find the garbage disposal smells sometimes and I put baking soda in it.
