Short starts being a little difficult once you're short enough to be considered a Little Person.

It's one thing being a little bit under 5 feet, it's quite another to be unable to reach the buttons on elevators and have the need to use a stool in order to navigate one's kitchen.

Yes, if I knew that my child was going to be significantly short (LP short), then yes, I might consider Growth Hormone. At this point, I know nothing of the risks, but would think about it depending on the risk factor.

I would. Short is ok, but not extra short... like tall, basically.

I'm 5 feet and definitely would have been very annoyed at my parents if they'd given me Growth Hormones!

It's one thing being below average, it's another when being short becomes a disability.

Also at what age do you give it? Some children have their growth spurts later then others.

how do you know how tall they're going to be ...
my dd if 4'11" and she looks fine ... sometimes she asks me why I didn't give her shots and also blames me for marrying a petite guy ... but ... she's skinny as well
If it's 4'9" and under ... maybe ...
what are the risks ...

Exactly - how do you know that they're not going to have a growth spurt? I had a girl in my high school class that was under 5 feet, and during the summer before 10th grade she had a HUGE spurt and is now 5'9"!

From Wiki:

Risks and side effects of GH treatment
Risks and side effects of GH use in children are rare, principally headache due to pseudotumor cerebri and slipped capital femoral epiphysis. The most common minor side effects in adults include fluid retention, joint pain, and nerve compression symptoms. There is theoretical concern and weak evidence that GH treatment may increase the risks of diabetes or cancer, especially in those with other predispositions treated with higher doses. One survey of adults who had been treated with replacement cadaver GH during childhood showed a mildly increased incidence of colon cancer, but linkage with the GH treatment was not established.[8]

they take an x-ray and measure your bones to see how tall you will be.
this is called a BONE AGE TEST.

no one has a chyrstle ball
no one has gurantee-s

while we worry about ones destiny ... it factor in with the bones density ... how much it is hardening at the growth point in the femur ... if it is clear then you know there is still growth ... otherwise finished growing ...
