Can I take a piece of raw chicken, coat it in egg, and fry it up like shnitzel? Will it taste ok?

A piece of chicken or of schnitzel? Chicken would for sure not work because the egg would burn before the chicken was cooked. I'm not even sure that schnitzel would work because the egg would slide off the meat with no flour, starch or nuts to hold it.

It tastes good, but not like shnitzel. Also you have to watch that it doesn't stick to the pan.
Another idea is to coat with ground almonds - tastes great.

Now this sounds really interesting, might give this a try, it seems your Mum has some really good ideas.
By the way isn't schnitzel made out of chicken or are schnitzels made out of different kind of meats in other parts of the world?

Schnitzel is supposed to be veal, but people use chicken or sometimes turkey because veal is expensive (and here in the UK hard to find too)

Thanks I have always used chicken or turkey for schnitzel's so I was a bit confused. I've never heard of veal being used for schnitzel. As you say it is really hard to get hold of veal here in the UK.

Somehow plain chicken and eggs makes me thing of bacon and eggs?
I do it with nuts every year, it’s heavenly because the nuts have a lot of fat so the chicken isn’t dry! You make a salt/pepper mixture with the eggs and fluff it with a fork. Dip the chicken into that and then into ground nuts, doesn’t have to be very fine, more like sprinkles. It gets very dark right away so you don’t know if it’s cooked or not, so just look at the clock.
Be very gentle when dipping, it does slip around a lot.
