What to do with strawberries?

Fresh strawberries are on sale this week. I want to buy them for Shabbos dessert - any ideas on how to serve them, other than with whipped cream out of the can?

Serve it for breakfast, with cottage cheese and some sugar for the kids. When I see a lot of them, I mash it and freeze it and use 2 tablespoons in my milkshake.

I want to serve them at the Friday night seuda. Cottage cheese (which hasn't been available here for about half a year anyhow) doesnt' really go with chicken soup.

You could make a strawberry mousse:
1kg s.berries
1 16oz whip
1 cup sugar
Juice of 1/2 a lemon
Whip up the whip. Separately blend rest of ingredients.
Combine the 2 and refrigerate.

You could garnish with a slice of kiwi.
I make it often and we love it.

you can dip them in melted chocolate chips and serve them on top of a sponge cake ... or sliced strawberries with a little sugar to syrup ... or on top of chocolate moose

Strawberry soup - strawberries, wine, orange, lemon juice, sugar - water- blend and so yummy!

Two ideas:

1)Strawberry shortcake. Make a regular yellow cake, bake in two round pans. Put one on a platter, cover in whip cream. Then slice strawberries and layer all over. Then put the second cake on top of that. Cover the top and sides in whip cream and decorate with more strawberries. This also looks so pretty in a trifle dish.

2) In some nice glass cups (I have a few that I use I think they are supposed to be fancy ice cream dishes) put some chocolate pudding in the bottom, then a layer of whip cream, then cut up strawberries on top. So easy, so pretty, and so refreshing after a big dinner!

mix strawberries, applesauce, and pineapple chunks together or u can blend it. if u want can put some coconut on top

Make a lemon whip, which serves great with strawberries!

lemon whip:
whip up a rich's whip.

then add to mixer:
1/2 container of marshmallow fluff
1 can of lemon pie filling

pour into serving bowl and refrigerate until ready to eat.
EXCELLENT, and I always serve it with sliced strawberries!

Queen, do you use 1/2 of the large fluff container? Also, do you serve it in slices or kind of just scoop it out on a plate?

Ice "cream" - 1 egg white, pinch salt, juice 1/2 lemon - beat until frothy. Add 3/4 c. sugar and 1 c. sliced strawberries - whip until 3x volume. Freeze. This makes enough to serve 4, and I usually triple it. It's really, really good.

I love strawberry sorbet...I always use this recipe from The Food Processor cookbook. you freeze the berries first, then puree in a food processor on the knife blade with:

some sugar, to taste
1/2 cup soymilk or orange juice
a few teaspoons lemon juice

then you mix it all up in a bowl and stick in the freezer.
Take it out to soften 1/2 hour before serving. It's very refreshing, and if you use a sugar substitute, it can be perfect for people watching their weight.
(strawberries have a pretty low glycemic index, which is great for the low-carb eaters.)

yes
It doesn't get hard enough to slice, the consistency becomes similar to chocolate moosse. I just scoop onto plate, and put a spoon full of sliced strawberries on the side.

Strawberry Streusel Cake
from a tzedekah DVD
made for DH's bday and was a big hit

Strawberry Puree
8 oz fresh strawberries
3 T strawberry jelly or jam
2 tsp cornstarsch
2 tsp vanilla extract

Combine in food processor or blender and puree until smooth.

Cake
3/4 cup sugar
2 cups flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
1 1/2 sticks margarine, softened
1 cup sour cream (pareve or dairy) or mayonnaise
1 egg
1 T vanilla

Combine sugar, flour, baking powder, and soda. Add margarine. Set aside 1/2 cup of this for topping.

Add the sour cream or mayo, egg and vanilla to main mixture. Using about half of it, drop into your 4 by 5 inch baking pan. Dump all the puree on top, making it an even layer, if possible. Cover with remaining batter. Sprinkle the reserved topping on top and bake at 375 until brown.

Recipe may be doubled and baked in 9 by 13 pan.
